The Welder, Journeyman at Rostel, is the subjectmatter expert responsible for fabricating, fitting, and repairing drilling rig components while mentoring apprentices through their training. This role works closely with the Lead Hand to ensure that all products and projects are completed efficiently and meet high-quality standards.

DAY IN THE LIFE:

  • Read and interpret blueprints and welding specifications; fabricate, fit, and repair drilling rig components to high-quality standards
  • Perform structural welding and metal fabrication using multiple processes (GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, SMAW, MCAW), as well as cutting, brazing, and metalshaping equipment
  • Safely operate welding, hoisting, rigging, and lifting equipment in accordance with industry and site safety requirements
  • Support efficient project execution through accurate workmanship, participation in project estimating, and maintaining shop cleanliness and organization
  • Work safely and collaboratively while producing defectfree work, mentoring apprentices as needed, and maintaining a positive, communicative, and professional attitude

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU:

  • Red Seal Journeyman Welder with completion of a recognized welding apprenticeship or equivalent trade experience; minimum 54 months / 7,020 hours on site
  • 3-5+ years of fabrication experience, with strong capability in FCAW, SMAW, GMAW, fitting, and allposition welding; B Pressure Ticket considered an asset
  • Proven ability to read and interpret structural blueprints, welding symbols, and work to industry codes (API, CWB, ASME, CSA)
  • Strong commitment to safety, including knowledge of OHS regulations, WHMIS, PPE, and maintaining a safe work environment
  • Detailoriented, selfmotivated team player with strong communication skills and willingness to mentor apprentices in a serviceoriented setting
