Job description

Location: Greater Rochester Area, NY
Position: Children and Student Ministries Director
Hours: Part-Time (25 hours per week; Office closed on Fridays)
Work Schedule: Sunday mornings with our children's ministry (Kidzone), Sunday evenings youth group (Roots), Tuesdays, and another day of your choice pre-decided with campus pastor approval.
Time Off: 2 weeks prorated per year.
Supervisor(s): Walworth Campus Pastor
Job Summary:
The children and student ministries director will oversee the children's ministry (Kidzone) and student ministries (Roots) at Crosstown Alliance Church's Walworth campus. This includes leading Kidzone and Roots at the Walworth Campus by equipping volunteers, discipling students, and supporting families.
This part-time position requires strong leadership, communication, and a passion for helping the next generation grow in faith. The Kidzone and Roots director reports to the Walworth Campus Pastor.
Areas of Responsibility:
Children's Ministry (Kidzone)
  • Program Development & Administration
  • Develop and implement a curriculum for Sunday morning Kidzone where kids can learn about Jesus at their level.
  • Finalize and manage an annual budget for the children's ministry.
  • Maintain regular communication with the campus pastor regarding ministry needs and progress.

Sunday Morning Leadership
  • Ensure all classrooms are prepared and ready to go for Sunday morning.
  • Lead and oversee Sunday morning Kidzone, including check-in, programming, crafts/ music, and volunteer coordination.
  • Be available to teach as needed.
  • Restock craft supplies in the Kidzone area and nursery supplies when necessary (i.e. wipes, diapers, etc.).

Volunteer Engagement & Support
  • Recruit, train, and schedule volunteers for both Nursery and Kidzone.

  • Ensure all volunteers are background-checked and following safety procedures outlined in the Children's and Student Ministry Training Manual.
  • Keep a positive, supportive team culture among volunteers, providing ongoing encouragement and support.

Family Engagement & Support
  • Provide support, encouragement, and resources for parents in their role as spiritual leaders.
  • Communicate upcoming events, programs, and opportunities through newsletters, emails, or other channels.

Safety & Compliance
  • Regularly review and update safety policies to ensure a secure environment for children, volunteers, and families.
  • Maintain records of volunteer background checks, training certifications, and child protection protocols.

Events & Special Programs
  • Attend, and assist in coordinating, special events for students, such as all-campus Roots events, camps, retreats, youth mission trips, etc.
Student Ministry (Roots)
Program Development & Administration
  • Develop and implement curriculum for weekly youth group meetings (Roots) and student-related events.
  • Help finalize and manage an annual budget for the student ministry.

Volunteer Engagement & Support
  • Recruit, train, and equip a team of volunteers for student ministry.
  • Maintain a volunteer schedule to ensure proper coverage for youth meetings and events.
  • Ensure all volunteers are background-checked and trained in student safety policies.

Student Discipleship & Engagement
  • Build relationships with students through mentorship, discipleship, and personal encouragement.
  • Facilitate one-on-one discipleship, small groups, and service projects to encourage spiritual growth.
  • Be available to support students facing life challenges, offering biblical guidance.

Safety & Compliance
  • Regularly review and enforce safety policies to create a secure environment for students and volunteers.
  • Maintain records of volunteer background checks and child protection training.
  • Ensure proper supervision during youth group events and ministry activities.

Events & Special Programs
  • Assist in planning and leading all-campus Roots events, snow and summer camps, mission trips, and other student-focused gatherings.
Requirements:

  • Display appropriate and positive interactions with children and students.
  • Complete a background check and adhere to the volunteer training manual.
  • Take an active role in contributing to your local campus.
  • Be willing to perform job-related tasks as assigned by your supervisor.

  • Passion for helping children & students grow in their spiritual maturity.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with children, students, parents, and volunteers.
  • Effective leadership and team-building skills, with experience in volunteer management.
  • Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate teaching methods.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for children.
  • Experience in using or willing to learn church management software (i.e. Planning Center).
