Job Summary:

The Mold Technician is responsible for designing, building, repairing, and maintaining molds used in manufacturing processes. This role requires expertise in working with metal, plastic, or composite molds, along with strong proficiency in reading blueprints, operating machining tools, and ensuring all molds meet established quality and production standards. The ideal candidate will play a key role in supporting efficient manufacturing operations through precise and reliable mold work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Mold Fabrication & Assembly:

  • Manufacture, assemble, and modify molds using machining techniques such as milling, grinding, drilling, and EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining).
  • Interpret blueprints, CAD models, and technical drawings to create precise molds.

Mold Maintenance & Repair:

  • Troubleshoot and repair worn or damaged molds to maintain production efficiency.
  • Conduct regular maintenance and inspections to ensure molds remain in optimal condition.

Machining & Tooling:

  • Operate CNC machines, lathes, grinders, and other precision tools to fabricate mold components.
  • Perform hand-finishing techniques such as polishing, deburring, and fitting mold parts.

Quality Assurance & Testing:

  • Inspect molds for defects and ensure they meet strict quality standards before production use.
  • Work closely with engineers and production teams to make necessary mold modifications

Safety & Compliance:

  • Follow all workplace safety protocols and ensure compliance with industry regulations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to company policies.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Opportunity to learn diamond turning along with mold making/working on molds.

Education, Skills and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (technical certification preferred).
  • 3+ years of experience in mold making, tool & die, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints, CAD designs, and precision measurement tools.
  • Strong knowledge of machining processes, CNC operation, and manual tooling techniques.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mold defects and perform repairs efficiently.
  • Apprenticeship or certification in Mold Making, Tool & Die, or related trade preferred.
  • Experience with injection molding, compression molding, or die-casting molds.
  • Understanding of various mold materials (e.g., steel, aluminum, plastic composites).
  • Familiarity with industry software such as AutoCAD, Mastercam, or SolidWorks.
