Job description

POSITION INFORMATION:
The Technician diagnoses and repairs vehicles brought to the dealership for service, emphasizing fixing the vehicle right the first time, and performing work in an efficient manner. The Technician reports to the Service Manager.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Receive work assignments and completes work under Dispatcher's direction.
- Diagnose vehicle problems in a timely manner, including test drives as necessary.
- Take car of customer's vehicles-no smoking, no grease, no radio, no personal errands, keeping customer keys under control.
- Use appropriate diagnostic equipment as needed.
- Call for assistance from Shop Foreman to aid with difficult diagnostic problems after utilizing sources available (Shop manuals, Tech bulletins, Tech line or online information).
  • Collect all necessary information before requesting parts (e.g., model year)

  • Correctly use special tools and equipment provided by the Service Department

  • Write complete and accurate descriptions of work done/cause of problem on repair orders. Must be readable. Complete warranty repair orders according to Manufacturer and Dealership policy, including repair procedures and parts core policies.

- Notify Service Advisor of additional needed work. Never suggest unneeded work.
- Communicate problems or delays to Dispatcher as soon as observed.
  • Road-test vehicles to quality-check work performed

  • Return completed repair order to Dispatcher, placing keys in correct location, and noting vehicle space number on key tag.

  • Keep up-to-date on latest technical service bulletins, campaigns, etc.

- Follow safety rules and regulations.
- Use time ticket correctly and according to dealership requirements
- Keep shop area neat and clean and be able to account for all dealership-owned tools at all times.
- Enroll in current technology training classes as scheduled.
- Understand and follow federal, state and local regulations such as those governing the disposal of hazardous wastes. Follow dealership's Injury and Illness Prevention Program.
- Supervise work of any apprentice technicians as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or the equivalent. Must be capable of achieving manufacturer's certificate
in specialized field. Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information. General mechanical skills. Valid driver's license and a good driving record. Excellent manual dexterity. Good judgment. Must have a professional appearance.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This is a physically demanding position. The Technician will stand six to eight hours per shift, lift parts weighing up to 50 pounds several times during each shift, and use hoist and test equipment as needed. S/he will stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, handle, and feel. S/he will use hand and power tools. S/he will be exposed to noise, vibration, dust, exhaust fumes, and other hazardous and non-hazardous materials. Road-testing of vehicles may be required. The Technician will be required to wear dealership approved attire at all times.
