Engineer I / II / III / Senior - Systems and Program Support

Summary

The EngineerI / Engineer II / Engineer III / Engineer, Senior | System and Program Support – Supports the reliability, health, and lifecycle management of critical generation assets, including power transformers and high-voltage electrical systems, through condition monitoring, preventive maintenance programs, engineering evaluations, and project support. Provides technical expertise and engineering support for emergent plant issues, equipment failures, and operational challenges to support safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations.

You are responsible for:
  • Lead asset condition assessment programs for critical generation assets, including power transformers and associated high-voltage electrical infrastructure, to evaluate equipment health, identify degradation trends, and support risk-informed maintenance and investment decisions.
  • Develop and implement condition monitoring, inspection, testing, preventive maintenance, and asset management strategies that improve equipment reliability, availability, and lifecycle performance.
  • Provide engineering support and technical leadership in the evaluation, troubleshooting, and resolution of emergent plant issues, equipment failures, and operational reliability challenges.
  • Analyze equipment health data, diagnostic test results, inspection findings, and performance trends to identify reliability risks and develop corrective actions, refurbishment plans, or replacement recommendations.
  • Review and provide oversight of engineering service provider design packages and recommend modifications to improve reliability, maintainability, safety, and operational performance.
  • Collaborate with plant personnel and project stakeholders to define project objectives, develop scopes of work, and ensure solutions meet operational, budget, and schedule requirements.
  • Prepare engineering analyses, technical evaluations, specifications, studies, investigations, and cost estimates to support plant operations, maintenance, and capital projects.
  • Participate in capital projects and engineering initiatives involving equipment replacements, system upgrades, and long-term asset improvement strategies.
  • Coordinate with consultants, contractors, and stakeholders on project execution, technical reviews, feasibility studies, and engineering recommendations.
  • Present technical findings, recommendations, and project updates to plant personnel, leadership, and business partners.
  • Research emerging technologies, industry best practices, and reliability improvement opportunities and provide recommendations for company operations.
  • Interface with regulatory agencies, industry organizations, and external partners as needed.
  • Ensure engineering work complies with applicable standards, codes, operating requirements, and regulatory obligations.

Approved degrees: Materials Science/Metallurgy, Physics, Chemistry, Nuclear, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Electronics, Computer Science, Environmental, Chemical, Structural. (A four-year bachelor of Engineering Technology degree is not considered an automatic equivalent for a B.S. degree in Engineering. A review of the degree program curriculum must be completed by Engineering department management.)

1) Analyzes and prepares a variety of data, technical reviews and evaluations, trend analyses, short to long-range technology assessments, products and services, investigations, product/specification verifications to aid decision making. May present findings to a diverse group of management, internal staff, customers, vendors, etc.

2) Identifies, communicates and advocates resolution of technical concerns while adhering to sound engineering principles during evaluation / resolution of the conditions. Challenges conditions and decisions when needed to ensure plant systems, engineering designs, project controls and oversight of work has high technical quality, is cost effective, in compliance with established standards, codes and regulations, maintains future reliability, satisfies customer requirements, budget and schedules to meet or exceed all reasonable or agreed upon customer service levels.

3) Interfaces with customers or cross organizational team members to assess their needs, determine the scope of the project, obtain necessary data to make key decisions which may require consultation with external or internal customers or employees.

4) May provide oversight of engineering technical programs by managing the program requirements, working with cross organizational partners, reviewing and internalizing operating experience and coordinating corrective actions to ensure engineering program elements continue to remain healthy.

5) Provides support for projects and modifications that will increase operating efficiency. May review design and documentation of projects to ensure compliance with design specifications, schedules and any regulatory requirements.

6) May assume responsibility for small- to medium-scale projects which include planning, designing, scheduling and coordinating all facets of the project.

7) Checks and reviews standard analysis, evaluations, and investigations of others.

8) May provide technical guidance and leadership to less experienced engineers.

9) Remains cognizant of current technology and engineering developments as well as industry and competitive developments. Maintains high individual level of engineering technical capabilities and expertise by formal education, self-study, and awareness of technology advances.

3) Enhances department performance and productivity and/or unit performance by formulating, coordinating, performing analysis and making recommendations for improvements. Provides technical assistance and guidance to department personnel to enhance department performance and productivity.

4) May provide oversight of engineering technical programs by managing the program requirements, working with cross organizational partners, reviewing and internalizing operating experience and coordinating corrective actions to ensure engineering program elements continue to remain healthy.

5) May assume responsibility for small- to medium-scale projects which include planning, designing, scheduling and coordinating all facets of the project. Identifies potential schedule or quality problems and initiates corrective action. Takes initiative to eliminate barriers and uses resources to ensure desired results. May interface with outside agencies and regulatory authorities.

6) Provides technical guidance and leadership to less experienced engineers.

7) May participate in developing long-range strategies for significant site problems.
