Position Description:
The Kent School of Social Work at the University of Louisville invites applicants to apply for Part-Time Lecturer (PTL) campus-based teaching positions in the following program areas:
  • BSW Program
  • Applied Family Science Minor
  • MSSW Program

Salary based on a per credit hour value of course taught (Typically a 3-credit hour course)
We offer courses in traditional and online settings.
For BSW and MSSW Programs: Master's degree in social work required plus two years post-masters experience for all practice courses and practicum liaison work.
For Applied Family Science Minor: Master's degree in family science, couple and family therapy, social work, or related field, plus one to two years post-masters experience in applied work (e.g., teaching, assessment, case management, therapy, etc.)
For Practicum Education Program: Master's degree from a CSWE accredited program and a minimum of 2 years of experience supervising practicum students in an agency setting.
Resumes will be screened as need arises. Applicants will be considered as openings become available for teaching in Fall, Spring and Summer semesters and the Winter Session. This advertisement is effective for six months after the date it is first posted. If you are not hired during that time you will need to reapply. If you are a non-exempt University employee (e.g., hourly) you are not eligible to apply.
Instructors are expected to attend orientation/trainings/liaison meetings 3x per semester, submit course syllabus, order textbooks or other reading materials, provide developmentally meaningful feedback, present engaging learning experiences, respond to students in a timely manner, communicate regularly with designated course chair, maintain collegial and respectful relations with members of the UofL community and external stakeholders, and submit course data and final grades within university deadlines, and comply with other requests as a part-time lecturer.
In addition, to the resume/CV, applicants should respond to the following four prompts. Discuss the strategies that you think work best in facilitating learning among students in higher education?
  • Describe the optimal relationship between students and the instructor.
  • Please describe how you work to create positive classroom environment (online and/or face to face) that is welcoming and builds community in the classroom? Please provide a specific example.
  • What methods might you use to monitor and adjust your teaching/instruction to increase learning of all students?
  • Select three of the following options below and for each selected, describe one or two specific examples of how you implemented the practice.
    • 1) ensure students understand the circumstances that contribute to the problems facing those social workers who serve individuals, families, groups, organizations, neighborhoods, other geographic areas, society, and those in other countries,
    • 2) ensure students understand how to apply the NASW Code of Ethics or the CFLE Code of Ethics to our work at all these levels,
    • 3) ensure students tailor services and policies to the needs of the individuals, families, groups, etc we serve and champion,
    • 4) ensure students advocate for tailored services and policies at the macro and mezzo levels,
    • 5) ensure students advocate for strategies and policies that ensure positive outcomes for those we serve (including organizations, neighborhoods, society at large)
    • 6) ensure students understand the importance of being seen, heard, and responded to; the importance of relationship building and cohesion within groups and organizations to promote well-being

Overview of the University
The University of Louisville is a state supported research university located in Kentucky's largest metropolitan area. It was a municipally supported public institution for many decades prior to joining the university system in 1970. The University has three campuses. The 287-acre Belknap Campus is three miles from downtown Louisville and houses 7 of the university's 12 colleges and schools. The Health Sciences Center is situated in downtown Louisville's medical complex and houses the university's health related programs and the University of Louisville Hospital. The 243-acre Shelbyhurst Campus is located in eastern Jefferson County.
