Senior Engineer, Applied Research
We are looking for a strong Research Engineer to join our Clinical and Applied Research team focusing in the area of Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM), including diagnostics and therapy for traditional bradycardia and pacing therapy, leadless pacemakers, cardiac monitoring and arrhythmia detection, tachycardia, and congestive heart failure. In this role, you will invent, demonstrate feasibility for, and prototype algorithms that enable new and differentiated product features. You will analyze clinical and preclinical data to characterize performance and monitor features in real-world use. You will collaborate closely with software and hardware development teams throughout the innovation, specification, and prototyping phases of new feature development. You will prepare technical analyses and reports to support regulatory submissions and product approvals. You will also work directly with external clinical research partners to design research studies, collect and evaluate data, and present findings to management and corporate stakeholders. This role operates in a highly innovative environment where you are expected to contribute to intellectual property development and to publish scientific work related to your research.
Your Responsibilities
  • Design, testing, and evaluation of feature prototypes (Matlab to C/C# in embedded environments) with the appropriate documentation
  • Write feature specifications, test specifications, and design specifications for use in development projects
  • Manage clinical and experimental studies throughout their life-cycle
  • Generate proposals based on a research road-map
  • Interface to external research partners
  • Design and write clinical study protocols
  • Interface to ethics committees

Your Profile
REQUIREMENTS
  • PhD or BS/MS in Engineering and/or Biomedical Engineering and/or Physics/Chemistry, or equivalent work experience in research environments.
  • A strong background in biological data analysis, especially with tools like MATLAB
  • Background in electrotherapy of the heart or similar biomedical experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a can-do attitude

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
  • A thorough understanding and significant experience in biomedical research preferably in the products and applications for the electrotherapy of the heart.
  • Proven ability to develop new research ideas and early developments to the level of a working system prototype
  • Strong background in biological data analysis (linear, stochastical, time/frequency domain, pattern recognition)
  • Strong background in C++/C#/Matlab, background in embedded coding (C) is preferred
  • Experience with statistical packages is a plus
  • Strong team player
  • Self-motivated, self-directed, and the ability to learn quickly
  • Demonstration of innovative working style

Travel
  • Must be able to travel internationally and domestically, less than 15% of the time.
