Job description

The Sr. Applications Specialist serves as the primary application owner and subject matter expert for assigned Health Information Management (HIM) systems, including document management, transcription, coding, reimbursement, and related applications. Responsible for the ongoing administration, optimization, integration, security, and performance of supported systems to ensure effective operational and financial outcomes.
Partners with operational leaders, Information Systems, vendors, and end users to evaluate business needs, improve workflows, implement system enhancements, and maintain data integrity across integrated applications. Leads application testing, issue resolution, upgrade validation, and change management activities while assessing the impact of system changes on departmental and organizational processes.
Develops and maintains system-related policies, procedures, reports, and training programs to support user adoption and effective utilization of applications. Serves as a consultant and resource to hospital departments, participating in organizational initiatives and cross-functional teams to advance operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, documentation quality, and reimbursement performance in support of the mission, vision, and values of Woman's Hospital.
Requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a major in Health Information Management and registration as a Registered Health Information Administrator (including 30+ hours of continuing education every 2 years). Graduates eligible to sit for the Registered Health Information Administrator exam will be considered.
  • Experience with healthcare operations and a working knowledge of clinical, financial, and administrative functions that support healthcare delivery
  • Two years of experience in HIM, including areas such as document management, record completion, physician suspension, retention, electronic health records, coding, reimbursement, data collection, data validation, and regulatory compliance is preferred.
  • Experience in healthcare application administration, system implementation, testing, upgrades, troubleshooting, vendor management, workflow analysis, and report development is preferred.
  • Experience supporting integrated healthcare information systems and leading or participating in organizational projects and process improvement initiatives is also preferred.
  • Experience with Solventum/3M software systems to include 360 Encompass Coding and Clinical Documentation Integrity Software preferred.
  • Exprience with Epic Systems Corporation Electronic Health Record preferred.

Responsibilities:
  • Serves as the application owner and subject matter expert, partnering with stakeholders to identify business needs and develop technology solutions.
  • Formulates and defines system scope and objectives through research and fact-finding to develop or modify moderately complex information systems, under general supervision.
  • Evaluates operational workflows and recommends system optimization opportunities to improve efficiency, data integrity, and user experience.
  • Evaluates new and existing system for enhancement, revision, or acquisition based on assessment of customer, departmental, and organizational needs.
  • Devises or modifies software or integration to solve complex problems considering computer equipment capacity and limitations, operating time and form of desired results.
  • Tests and analyzes changes and enhancements to systems in order to ensure system integrity and determine impact on other systems and interfaces.
  • Collaborates with vendors, Information Systems, and operational stakeholders to design, test, and implement system enhancements and new functionality.
  • Coordinates and maintains interface communication between application and EPIC and other systems.
  • Works with information systems staff to coordinate activities and improve overall system and departmental performance.
  • Maintains system security by development and review of menus and access for employees for supported system(s).

  • Any other duties as assigned by Woman's Hospital.
