The Applications Engineer – Integrated Modular Solutions (IMS) supports the pre-sale design, configuration, and quotation of modular infrastructure solutions for Hyperscale and HPC data center applications. This role plays a critical part in translating customer requirements into technically sound, manufacturable, and commercially viable integrated modular solutions.

Operating at the intersection of Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain, this position is responsible for reviewing customer specifications, developing preliminary system configurations, supporting cost development, and ensuring proposed solutions align with code requirements and operational capabilities. The Application Engineer helps drive scalable, efficient, and deployment-ready modular infrastructure solutions from concept through proposal development.

Core Responsibilities

  • Review RFQs, RFPs, and customer technical specifications to define project scope, compliance requirements, and configuration strategy
  • Develop pre-sale technical designs including one-line diagrams, system layouts, equipment selection, and modular configuration concepts
  • Prepare technical quotation packages in collaboration with Sales, Engineering, and Supply Chain teams
  • Support cost development activities including bills of material, major equipment selections, and integration requirements
  • Ensure proposed solutions comply with applicable codes and standards including NEC, UL, ANSI, NEMA, NFPA, IEEE, and regional certification programs
  • Evaluate customer requirements for Tier I–IV data center architectures and align IMS configurations accordingly
  • Coordinate with Manufacturing teams to validate design feasibility, production constraints, and standardization alignment
  • Support value engineering efforts focused on manufacturability, deployment efficiency, and cost optimization

Additional Responsibilities

  • Support technical responses to RFIs and RFPs, including compliance documentation and matrices
  • Participate in internal design reviews to ensure alignment between proposal development and engineering execution
  • Assist with submittal documentation preparation following project award
  • Provide technical clarification during customer meetings and pre-award discussions
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of application engineering workflows, quoting processes, and configuration standards
  • Support development of standardized IMS configuration templates and quoting tools

What You’ll Be Doing Day-to-Day

  • Developing conceptual system layouts and one-line diagrams
  • Coordinating with engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing teams on equipment selection and feasibility
  • Supporting proposal development, pricing inputs, and technical documentation
  • Participating in customer discussions and technical clarification meetings
  • Assisting with continuous improvement initiatives related to quoting and configuration workflows
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent industry experience)
  • 3–7 years of experience in data center infrastructure, modular infrastructure, mission-critical power, or application engineering roles
  • Strong understanding of low-voltage power distribution systems including switchboards, PDUs, RPPs, STSs, transformers, and associated control systems
  • Experience reviewing and interpreting RFQ/RFI/RFP documentation and customer technical specifications
  • Working knowledge of one-line diagrams, power system architecture, and equipment configuration principles
  • Familiarity with MEP integration in prefabricated or modular environments
  • Understanding of manufacturing considerations, equipment lead times, and system cost drivers
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in technical and commercial documentation preparation
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally

Preferred

  • Experience supporting prefabricated or modular data center infrastructure solutions
  • Familiarity with UL certification processes and compliance documentation
  • Experience contributing to configuration tool development or standardized product platforms
  • Working knowledge of conceptual 3D modeling tools such as SketchUp or Revit
  • Exposure to factory acceptance testing (FAT) or field commissioning activities
