Job description

POSITION PURPOSE

The Global Advanced Applications team is BAC’s technical authority for complex, non-standard customer applications, delivering engineering solutions that enable BAC to win in core markets and priority growth segments, including data centers and other mission-critical applications. Headquartered in Jessup, MD, the team provides product and site-level expertise across thermal, controls, structural, sound, and related engineering domains in a fast-paced, high-impact environment.

The Senior Manager, Advanced Applications leads the function end-to-end, ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality decision packages that enable sound commercial and technical decisions while building a scalable, metrics-driven operating model. This role is accountable for team performance, operating rhythm, stakeholder alignment, and long-term capability development.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Lead and scale the Advanced Applications team across all domains, including hiring, development, and team structure
  • Own demand shaping and capacity management, aligning Advanced Applications support to highest-value business opportunities and prioritizing work based on commercial impact, risk, and strategic importance
  • Drive team performance, including definition, tracking, and reporting of key metrics, including business impact and contribution to win rate or risk reduction, and maintaining dashboards and reporting cadence
  • Own the Advanced Applications operating model, including intake, triage, prioritization, service levels, and enforcement of engagement guardrails
  • Ensure consistent delivery of high-quality, customer-ready decision packages across domains, and act as the final escalation point for high-stakes customer commitments and technical positions, with Leads and/or SMEs accountable for domain execution
  • Build and improve standard processes, playbooks, and governance, ensuring predictable response time, cycle time, and delivery quality
  • Serve as primary interface with business, engineering, executive, and customer-facing stakeholders, understanding commercial drivers, customer priorities, and market context and ensuring alignment and clear communication, and represent Advanced Applications in cross-functional planning and decision-making, including participation in select critical customer engagements
  • Drive knowledge capture and capability scaling, converting repeat work into tools, guidance, and clear downstream handoffs

NATURE AND SCOPE

The Senior Manager, Advanced Applications reports to the Global Director, Technology Innovation and leads a global, cross-domain team supporting high-stakes customer applications.

The role operates in a fast-paced environment, balancing rapid-response execution with structured performance management and capability building, and requires frequent interaction with global and regional business and engineering teams, and senior leadership, and is accountable for both (i) short-term performance: delivery quality, speed, business impact, and personnal execution of highly complex or sensitive jobs, and (ii) long-term capability, including scalable processes, team development, and improved performance.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field required); advanced degree preferred
  • ~15+ years of progressively complex engineering experience across multiple domains; at least 5 years in a directly relevant leadership role preferred
  • Proven experience leading technical teams and delivering cross-functional engineering solutions
  • Prior experience in applications engineering and/or customer-facing roles

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong engineering judgment and ability to manage technical trade-offs and risk
  • Strong understanding of BAC products, systems, and applications space
  • Ability to interpret/apply relevant codes, standards, and customer/site-specific requirements in support of technical decisions
  • Strong business and financial acumen, with ability to understand commercial drivers, evaluate trade-offs, and support decisions that impact customer commitments and business performance
  • Experience building engineering organizations, playbooks, and scalable processes
  • Proven ability to define and manage metrics-driven performance
  • Ability to design and enforce operating models, processes, and technical and organizational governance
  • Strong stakeholder management across technical and business audiences
  • Effective leadership skills, including prioritization, accountability, and team development

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience in industrial cooling or mission-critical applications (e.g. data centers)
  • Familiarity with digital twins and other system-level modeling approaches
