Job description

About MISUMI Americas

MISUMI Americas, a division of MISUMI Group, is a leading provider of standard, configurable, and custom manufacturing solutions. By integrating a vast catalog of components with a world-class digital manufacturing platform, MISUMI Americas empowers engineers and procurement teams to accelerate innovation across the entire product lifecycle. With operations in the San Francisco Bay Area and Chicago, the company serves as a vital partner for the most innovative companies in the Americas.

As a University Applications Engineer at MISUMI Americas, you will serve as the frontline technical ambassador between MISUMI and universities across North America. This role drives early adoption of MISUMI components, digital tools, and engineering workflows by engaging directly with students, faculty, and academic programs.

You will enable the next generation of engineers by supporting design projects, delivering hands-on workshops, and embedding MISUMI solutions into engineering education. This is a highly visible, field-facing role requiring strong technical expertise, communication, and a passion for developing future engineers.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Own and manage relationships across a defined portfolio of universities, serving as MISUMI's primary point of contact
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with professors, lab staff, and student organizations (e.g., robotics, Formula SAE, capstone teams)
  • Create and execute engagement plans for each institution, including workshops, curriculum integration, and project support
  • Drive sustained engagement by identifying new opportunities and expanding MISUMI presence within each university
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor on component selection, system design, and MISUMI tools
  • Track and report on university engagement, adoption, and relationship development outcomes
  • Build multi-level relationships within each institution to ensure long-term program continuity
  • All employees are expected to maintain and contribute to the QMS.

Required Qualifications and Desired Traits

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 2–5 years of experience in application engineering, technical sales, or design engineering
  • Proficiency with CAD tools (SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar)
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly
  • Experience working with student teams, academic programs, or training environments is a plus

Physical Demands

  • Travel: Ability to travel 50% annually in the US and Canada for university visits, team meetings, career fairs, trade shows, etc.

The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $90,000 USD based on experience.
If this sounds like the role for you, we'd love to hear from you!
