Yokogawa is seeking a highly skilled Resident Engineer to provide on-site technical support for industrial control systems at a customer facility in Louisiana, with periodic travel to additional customer locations.
This role is responsible for executing routine and complex engineering activities across Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and supervisory systems, including system maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnostics, repair, and implementation of hardware and software enhancements.
The Resident Engineer ensures system reliability, performance optimization, and operational continuity through proactive support and preventive maintenance programs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Execute advanced automation and control system engineering activities independently; serve as a technical resource in collaboration with the Project Lead and Engineering Manager.
• Lead implementation of system modifications, expansions, and upgrades, including configuration of control applications from design deliverables (e.g., control narratives, logic diagrams, functional specifications).
• Provide technical leadership in the installation, configuration, commissioning, and troubleshooting of Yokogawa control systems and related automation platforms.
• Design, configure, implement, and validate complex control solutions, including I/O configuration, control logic, interlocks, sequences, and HMI/operator interface graphics.
• Support and oversee hardware installation, instrumentation wiring, loop checks, and development/review of loop drawings; lead resolution of field and system-level issues.
• Lead troubleshooting of complex, multi-system issues involving DCS, PLCs, computer systems, and industrial networks; serve as an escalation point for critical incidents.
• Manage and coordinate engineering tasks and deliverables across projects of varying size and complexity; contribute to planning and execution strategy.
• Ensure technical accuracy, quality, and consistency of all engineering deliverables, including drawings, databases, configuration files, and documentation.
• Enforce compliance with Yokogawa quality standards, project quality plans, and documentation requirements; support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Interface directly with customers to provide technical guidance, system optimization recommendations, and lifecycle support.
• Perform site visits in support of Annual Lifecycle Agreements and ongoing customer engagements; support major outages, turnarounds, and critical events.
• Provide off-hours and weekend support as required to meet customer and operational needs.
• Utilize AutoCAD and engineering tools to support system design, documentation, and as-built deliverables.
• Apply advanced knowledge of process control principles, automation methodologies, and industry best practices; drive adoption of improvements.
• Maintain and expand expertise in Yokogawa system architectures through training, project leadership, and continuous learning.
• Demonstrate advanced knowledge of PLCs, system architecture, hardware design, computer systems, and industrial networking.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and evaluate their application to enhance system performance and reliability.
• Develop and deliver technical documentation, customer presentations, and training materials.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level engineers; support knowledge transfer and team development.
• Manage time, priorities, and project commitments effectively; accurately report time and expenses in accordance with company policies.
• Adhere to and promote safe work practices across office, plant, and field environments.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Working knowledge of process control fundamentals, including control loops, logic development, interlocks, and sequencing.
• Willingness and ability to work 100% on customer and project sites.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical, or related discipline) or equivalent technical experience
• 8 years of experience in industrial automation, process control, or control systems engineering.
• 5 years working experience in PLC, DCS, computer networking.
• Hands-on experience with Distributed Control Systems (DCS), PLCs, or SCADA systems
• Experience in control system configuration, troubleshooting, commissioning, and lifecycle support within an industrial or plant environment.
• Hands-on experience in control system configuration, lifecycle support, and real-time process environment troubleshooting.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Strong working knowledge of Yokogawa CENTUM and ProSafe-RS systems
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the environment is reasonable.
Physical Demand: The employee is occasionally required to lift to 50 pounds, able to coordinate with the packing and shipping of hardware components. The vision requirements include depth perception, ability to adjust focus, close vision, and color vision.
