Position Summary

The Applications Engineer plays a key role in supporting the Banner sales team by developing customer solutions using Banner’s broad portfolio of hardware products and systems. This role serves as technical support for all Banner products, with a focus on hardware implementation guidance, product selection, system design, and troubleshooting. Applications Engineers work closely with outside sales teams to create effective, real world solutions tailored to customer needs. You will be part of a collaborative team of technical experts focused on strengthening customer relationships and delivering practical automation solutions in a fast paced environment.

This position reports to Applications Engineer Manager

What You’ll Be Doing

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working collaboratively and individually, staying on top of tasks, and making a meaningful impact across teams and projects. Below are some key responsibilities of the role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing technical consultation and Banner product portfolio support service to Banner Area Sales Managers, Field Sales Representatives, distributors, and customers, with a focus on product selection, hardware implementation and integration.
  • Supporting the sales regions with tasks such as vetting and processing, product returns with technical issues (RMA requests) and assisting with pricing and availability questions.
  • Manage and prioritize multiple communication channels including phone, email, chat, and direct sales team inquiries, while delivering consistent and responsive technical support.
  • Use Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software to document technical summaries, customer information, and sales opportunities accurately and in a timely manner for all cases worked.
  • Collaborate with Engineering teams to identify and support hardware or configuration changes to existing products to meet unique application requirements.
  • Support proof-of-concept builds and pre-sales technical evaluations in collaboration with the sales team.
  • Conducting in-house tests to solve real-life customer applications.
  • Assist with product training for internal and external audiences, both in person and remotely, focused on application use and system setup.

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics or related technical field, or equivalent professional experience 
  • 2 - 3 years of experience in Applications Engineering, technical assistance, product service, sales, or related field
  • Experience working within an industrial automation environment.
  • Customer-facing or technical support experience.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of wireless, vision, safety, photoelectric, measurement & inspection, and lighting products.
  • Familiarity with industrial automation controls, including networking and industrial communication.
  • Experience delivering product training.
  • Technical knowledge of electronics, PLC's and SCADA.
  • Experience using Office 365, Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Salesforce CRM preferred.
