Job description


This Opportunity
Provides leadership and technical expertise within the civil engineering discipline to support the planning, design, and management of infrastructure projects and programs. The position contributes to ensuring technical quality and regulatory compliance while supporting innovation within the discipline.
The role offers opportunities to take on increasing responsibility based on experience and performance, including technical leadership, project management, client engagement, and staff development, within a dynamic and evolving business environment. Can be located in Louisville or Lexington.
Your Impact
    • Provide technical and professional leadership for civil engineering work.

    • Develop plans, specifications, cost estimates, design reports, and construction packages for civil components (grading using AutoCAD Civil3D, drainage, utilities, pavements, stormwater systems, access improvements, and site development).

    • Perform and/or support engineering reviews of permit applications, engineering design plans and specifications, contracts, management plans, and construction inspections, to ensure compliance with applicable local, state and/or federal requirements.

    • Lead or support the delivery of civil engineering projects of varying size and complexity. This includes coordinating schedules, tracking budget, and overseeing work of team members. Contribute to business development and the successful execution of work for current and potential infrastructure work.

    • Participate in client meetings, presentations, and technical discussions and support contract negotiations

    • Support the long-term strategy, growth, and pipeline development of Civil Engineering work for WSP

    • Support staff development through mentoring, technical guidance, and leadership.
    • Maintain awareness of evolving civil engineering methods, technologies, and industry trends.

    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

    • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Who You Are
Required Qualifications
    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline.

    • 5-10+ years of relevant post education experience in engineering, civil and infrastructure design.

    • Professional Engineer (PE) license required; multi-state licensure preferred or willingness to obtain.

    • Strong working knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, design standards, and application to permitting, design, and infrastructure projects.

    • Experience performing or reviewing engineering calculations, plans, specifications, and technical documents for compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and standards.

    • Working knowledge of relevant civil construction laws, regulatory requirements, QA/QC processes, and their impact on project delivery and business outcomes.

    • Grading and drainage design and stormwater modeling experience.
    • Erosion and sediment control and stormwater permitting experience.

    • Ability to work independently and provide technical guidance to project team members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.

    • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively with multi-disciplinary teams.

    • Advanced proficiency with common civil engineering and design software and tools (i.e., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, ArcGIS), predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.

    • Demonstrated commitment to safety, ethical decision-making, and adherence to company policies and professional standards.

    • Strong ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility to a variety of schedules and hours to meet business needs.

    • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications
    • Master's Degree in Engineering.
    • Experience supporting or leading technical reviews, discipline deliverables, or mentoring staff in a multi-project environment.
    • Experience managing small to mid-size design packages or task orders.
    • Experience coordinating with regulatory agencies on complex civil infrastructure permitting.
    • Experience with spec writing software (i.e. Spec Intact)
