Job Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Applications Sales Engineer to support and expand our presence in the water and wastewater treatment industry, serving both municipal and industrial markets. This role blends deep technical expertise with strong commercial acumen to deliver engineered solutions centered on blower systems, with a primary focus on Hoffman & Lamson equipment.

The Senior Applications Engineer serves as a strategic technical sales leader, responsible for driving complex engineered solution sales, influencing customer decisions early in the buying cycle, and owning technical win strategies across key opportunities. This position extends well beyond traditional application support, requiring close partnership with Sales, Product Management, and Engineering to drive revenue growth and successful outcomes.

In this role, you will act as a trusted advisor to customers and a technical authority within the organization. The ideal candidate will bring extensive knowledge of multistage centrifugal blowers, high-speed turbo blowers, regenerative blowers, rotary lobe, and screw blower technologies, along with strong expertise in process applications, controls integration, and system optimization.

Key Responsibilities Lead technical strategy for complex, high-value sales opportunities
  • Partner with Sales to define win strategies and value propositions
  • Drive customer decision-making through value-based positioning
  • Influence bid/no-bid decisions
Customer & Market Engagement
  • Build and maintain trusted advisor relationships with engineers, EPCs, OEMs, and end users
  • Influence project specifications early in the procurement and design cycle
  • Evaluate customer requirements and develop optimized solutions
  • Lead executive-level technical discussions
Solution Architecture & Technical Authority
  • Serve as technical subject matter expert for blower technologies and systems across water and wastewater applications
  • Support optimized, integrated solutions for industrial and municipal projects including process air systems, vapor handling and gas boosting/recovery.
  • Act as escalation point for complex applications
  • Support troubleshooting, performance optimization, and retrofit opportunities.
  • Prepare and deliver technical proposals, costing estimates, presentations, and value-based solutions.
Cross-Functional Leadership & Capability Building
  • Partner with Product Management on VOC and roadmap
  • Mentor Sales Engineering and Sales Teams
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Operations on Product Roadmaps and Life cycle management
  • Lead resolution of critical escalations
  • Provide training and technical guidance to customers and internal teams
Post-Sale Strategic Engagement
  • Provide oversight on key projects
  • Drive longโ€‘term customer success
Revenue Impact & Pipeline Ownership
  • Contribute to pipeline growth, support forecasting accuracy and win rates
  • Identify expansion and upsell opportunities
Industry Engagement
  • Deliver advanced training strategies both internal and external
  • Represent company at Industry Events/Conferences/Tradeshows (as needed)
Qualifications Required Experience
  • 12+ years in applications engineering or technical sales--This is a benchmark, ok with a little less or a little more experience, for the right candidate. We need a Sr level person.
  • Experience selling complex engineered and configured systems in water & wastewater industry applications
  • Experience working with EPCs, General Contractors, and Customers in Industrial + Municipal Markets
  • Proven success closing high-value deals--Need to be able to able to speak to this Tech in a sales environment with customers, reps, etcโ€ฆ
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of municipal and industrial treatment processes and systems (Aerations systems including preโ€‘treatment, SBRs, MBRs, secondary clarification, tertiary/advanced treatment, sludge handling etc)
  • Handsโ€‘on experience with, familiar with or has relevant experienceinmultistage centrifugal blowers, positive displacement (rotary lobe and screw), high speed turbo blowers and regenerative blowers
  • Basic understanding of controls systems (PLC/SCADA) and system integration.
  • Proven track record in technical sales or applications engineering.
Education
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in engineering (e.g., Mechanical, Industrial, or related discipline) preferred, or equivalent combination of technical education and relevant industry or business experience.
