Join a leading healthcare organization advancing research through innovative technology solutions. We are seeking an experienced Database Steward/Application Support Engineer to support research data platforms, enterprise applications, and IT service management within the Division of Research.
This role combines database administration, workflow automation, AI-enabled tools, application support, and data governance to empower researchers, analysts, and data scientists.
Key Responsibilities

  • Administer and support research applications, databases, and enterprise platforms.
  • Manage application licensing, upgrades, patches, configurations, and vendor relationships.
  • Support database environments, reporting, workflow automation, and data governance initiatives.
  • Assist end users with Python, R, SQL, scripting, AI tools, and code optimization.
  • Develop automation opportunities and improve operational workflows.
  • Coordinate software deployments, infrastructure updates, and security-related changes.
  • Lead technical projects from planning through implementation while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Create technical documentation, SOPs, knowledge articles, and operational reports.
  • Support ITSM processes including Incident, Problem, Change, Knowledge Management, and Service Reporting.
  • Work closely with research teams, data scientists, analysts, vendors, and IT leadership.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience supporting enterprise applications, databases, or data platforms (3 4 years considered for strong technical candidates).
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Data Analytics, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience with SQL, Python and/or R.
  • Experience in Database administration.
  • Experience in ITSM/ITIL practices, including workflow automation.
  • Experience in open-source technologies.
  • Previous exposure and/or experience in data governance and reporting.
  • Experience supporting enterprise applications and working directly with business users.
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, communication, and customer support skills.

Location: Pleasanton, CA (Hybrid)

  • Approximately 2 days onsite per week during onboarding, transitioning to 1 day onsite after training, with additional onsite support as needed.

Work Schedule: Candidates must be willing to work overtime as needed to support business priorities, critical system updates, production issues, and other time-sensitive operational requirements.
Duration: Initial contract anticipated to be 3 6 months with the goal of converting to a full-time employee before year-end, depending on business needs and performance.
