How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. A Project Manager II is responsible for managing assigned projects from order intake through closeout, with limited involvement during the quoting and handoff phases. This role ensures projects are executed on schedule, within approved budgets, and in accordance with contractual and quality requirements while serving as a primary point of contact for customers under the guidance of project management leadership.

The PM II is accountable for daytoday project execution, progress tracking, financial forecasting, and coordination with internal teams, suppliers, and subcontractors. The role requires growing ownership of project performance, proactive issue identification, and effective communication, while escalating risk, commercial exposure, and contractual concerns as appropriate.

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

Project Execution & Coordination

  • Manage assigned projects from kickoff through closeout in accordance with contract requirements and internal procedures
  • Coordinate crossfunctional activities across engineering, supply chain, construction, and finance
  • Serve as a primary customer contact for assigned projects, with support from leadership as needed
  • Track project progress and support schedule adherence through coordination and followup

Financial & Commercial Management

  • Track and forecast project costs, revenue, and earned value
  • Monitor project performance against assold margins and identify risks to financial outcomes
  • Support change order development and ensure alignment between scope, cost, and schedule
  • Maintain project cash flow tracking and support timely invoicing and collections

Scheduling & Risk Management

  • Maintain project schedules appropriate to project size and complexity using Microsoft Project or Primavera P6
  • Identify execution risks and escalate issues that could impact schedule, budget, or customer commitments
  • Coordinate material deliveries and support logistics activities in alignment with project schedules

Reporting & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate project documentation and status reporting
  • Prepare for and participate in routine project review and reportout meetings
  • Ensure alignment between project data in SAP and internal reporting tools
  • Support lessons learned documentation and continuous improvement feedback loops

Team Collaboration & Development

  • Work collaboratively with other Project Managers, Project Coordinators, and onsite teams
  • Assist with onboarding and training of new team members and PM I personnel
  • Contribute to consistent application of project management standards and best practices

What we are looking for (Required/Ideal Experience, Skills, Education)

Required Experience & Skills

  • 3-5 years of project or construction management experience
  • Experience working in industrial, power, HVAC, or similar technical environments
  • Working knowledge of project scheduling, cost tracking, and forecasting
  • Ability to read and interpret project estimates, contracts, and technical documentation
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Project
  • Experience using SAP or similar ERP systems
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problemsolving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with moderate complexity with limited supervision
  • Professional judgment to escalate contractual, financial, or execution risks appropriately

Ideal Experience & Skills

  • Experience supporting mediumscale or multidiscipline projects
  • Familiarity with Primavera P6 scheduling
  • Understanding of construction contracts, payment terms, and change management processes
  • Exposure to international logistics or documentation requirements

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, business, or engineering, or related field
  • Certification according to the US PMI standard, preferred

 

Travel & Working Environment

  • Onsite office environment, Monday - Friday when not traveling or in the field. Hybrid scheduling available after successful completion of probationary period. 
  • Ability to travel to construction jobsites for assigned projects to meet with construction crews and customers.
  • Often an outside environment; exposure to excessive noise, heat, or bad weather.
  • The position may require working occasionally outside normal work hours. 
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
  • Keyboarding/typing.
  • Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to read effectively from a computer screen and/or a paper copy.
  • Ability to handle a large volume of work and perform multiples tasks in a fast-paced environment.
