Job description

Application Engineering Manager
The Application Engineering Managerleads a global team of Application Engineers responsible for the recommended technical application and technical success of all cooling tower products. Provides technical support for all internal staff and maintains the technical tools and databases necessary to support our customers and maintain our technical superiority in the marketplace. Is the company representative regarding outside technical associations and committees. Employee may perform other related duties as required to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on Cooling Tower (CT) products. Top authority and resource for technical support for all product attributes. Develop technical publications, application bulletins, and in-person presentations as necessary.
  • Assist in the development, direction, review, and approval of new product designs and changes as requested by Sales and Product Management.
  • Represent Brentwood within professional associations. Chairing working committees and publishing technical papers.
  • Provide customer support for the proper selection of products for the customer's specific requirements.
  • Manage product-based documentation. Develop new and update existing documentation, working collaboratively with other internal functions as needed.
  • Be proficient at maintaining and using all in-house cooling tower sizing and rating software.
  • Identify and evaluate new technology for potential applications.
  • Identify and specify testing requirements to be performed in the test laboratory. Analyze R&D data related to CT product line, including fill thermal and pressure drop data for inclusion in rating software and published curves. Work with the marketing department to publish all cooling tower component performance data.
  • Provide appropriate product support in developing solutions to design, production and warranty problems as needed.
  • Travel to trade shows, job sites, and customers as required to assist the BDMs. Provide technical support at these locations as needed.
  • Work with R&D, inside sales, BDM's, marketing, and accounting departments as required.
  • Properly document all work, maintain orderly files (electronic and paper) accessible to other service and engineering personnel.
  • Exhibit ability to solve practical problems in situations where only limited information exists.
  • Demonstrate ability to interact and cooperate with all company employees.

Qualifications:The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • BS or MS in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or equivalent technical experience required.
  • P.E. license preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in applications engineering, product development, or technical sales support in HVAC, cooling towers, or process cooling systems.
  • Previous experience managing technical-based teams.
  • Knowledge of plastics manufacturing processes, including thermoforming, injection molding, and extrusion a plus
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents.
  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquires or complaints.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or styles.
  • Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, trade organizations, or public groups.
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as equation solving, exponential operations, logarithms, linear regression and curve fitting.
  • Ability to understand and apply concepts of calculus (integration and differentiation) to problem solving.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.) in various phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to travel 10-20%, domestic or international.
