How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)
SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As an Application Engineer II you serve as the liaison between external customers and internal departments, the incumbent works in conjunction with sales representatives, sales team, manufacturing, product management, and product engineering. Being a key technical advisor and product advocate, this role fundamentally contributes to build the best practice in product applications through continuous learning and expanding product expertise.
What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)
While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:
  1. Technical Excellence:
  • Provide technical support to sales representatives, distributors, contractors and end-users and internal departments
  • Advise and assist field sales personnel and their clients on product technical details, application requirements, etc. to obtain solutions of specific application problems
  • Deliver technical training support to internal and external personnel when required
  • Determine accurate information and calculations as associated with each sales order
  • Develop effective strategies based on thorough analysis of project variables, thus maximizing the likelihood of winning jobs
  1. Customer Support:
  • Serve as the liaison between external customers and internal departments
  • Evaluate needs of the customer and provide technical solutions that best fit the company's product portfolio
  • Listen, understand, and convey customer requirements
  • Provide product support information/ direction from existing manuals, bulletins and guides
  • Respond to quote requests (functional, technical, and pricing elements) in a timely manner
  • Assist in pricing special options
  1. Documentation and Continuous Improvement
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and streamlining technical support procedures
  • Assist product development in developing new and/or enhanced products by communicating trends, needs and issues in the marketplace
  • Participate in other duties that relate to the overall goals of the department as assigned

What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)
We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:
Required Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office software

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Fundamental knowledge in heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics
  • Familiarity with HVAC and refrigeration systems
  • Ability to read engineering drawings
  • Good understanding of technical and commercial project variables with the ability to proactively initiate action based on that understanding
  • Strong technical aptitude
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Familiarity with SAP or other ERP systems is a plus

Education & Certifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or chemical engineering, preferred

Travel & Working Environment
  • Minimum travel may be required. Less than 25%
