Job description

Location: Salem Health, 665 Winter Street SE, Salem, Oregon 97301
Department: Pharmacy
Position Type: Unscheduled, Per Diem, Non-Exempt
Schedule: Coverage as needed on weekends, 24-hour availability for inpatient pharmacy.
Your role with us
The pharmacy intern at Salem Health plays a critical role in supporting pharmacists and ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of patient care. This position requires strong communication and critical thinking skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with healthcare providers and patients. Under the supervision of a pharmacist, the intern will review patient records, perform clinical interventions, and assist with medication management.
What you'll do
  • Reviews patient records and orders regarding drug therapy, performing clinical interventions as defined by protocol and consulting with staff members on appropriate medication use.
  • Organizes and prioritizes workload to ensure efficiency and accuracy, assisting in training new staff and keeping current with changes and new procedures.
  • Performs medication reconciliation, accurately entering patient information into Epic computer system and initiating communication with primary care physicians and community pharmacies as needed.
  • Fills and labels medication bags, initiates deliveries, and ensures nursing staff meet compliance standards, accurately stocking and tracking medications in Omnicell dispensing machines.
  • Assists with IV admixture, compounding oral liquid formulations, and batching oral unit dose syringes, demonstrating knowledge of stability standards and cleaning procedures.
  • Greets patients and healthcare providers, answering questions and requests, maintaining pharmacy inventory, and ensuring medication availability.
  • Documents clinical interventions and participates in quality assurance activities, utilizing technology and critical thinking skills to resolve discrepancies and improve patient care.

Required qualifications
  • Enrolled in or graduate of an accredited college of pharmacy.
