Job description

Onset is seeking an experienced DevOps Engineer to support application development, SQL Server database administration, Windows server administration, Azure cloud services, DevOps operations, and system maintenance. 

This is a hybrid position. The contractor will be expected to work onsite two days per week initially and will eventually be required to work onsite three days per week. The role will support enterprise servers, databases, applications, and cloud environments across multiple NC DOA divisions.

 The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Windows Server administration, SQL Server database administration, Azure environments, Azure DevOps, application development, and enterprise system maintenance. The candidate should also be comfortable working directly with both technical and non-IT agency staff.

Responsibilities:

Server Administration

  • Administer a portfolio of approximately 15 enterprise servers supporting application, database, web, and file/print functions.
  • Manage Azure-hosted Development and QA environments and DIT-hosted Production, Test, and Training environments.
  • Support externally hosted application servers for the Mail Service Center.
  • Manage certificate administration, service accounts, and security configurations across supported servers.
  • Support Windows Server refresh and migration projects.
  • Maintain server availability, reliability, security, and performance across supported environments.

Database Administration

  • Administer multiple SQL Server databases across Azure and DIT hosting environments.
  • Support Development and QA databases as well as Production, Test, and Training databases supporting agency applications.
  • Maintain databases supporting the Mail Service Center, Motor Fleet, Non-Public Education, State Clearinghouse, and State Construction Office (Interscope).
  • Support databases utilized by external vendors for the Mail Service Center and State Parking.
  • Ensure database integrity, performance, and security.
  • Support database migrations and platform upgrades.
  • Troubleshoot SQL Server database issues and provide ongoing database support.

Application Development & DevOps

  • Serve as an Azure DevOps administrator, managing iterations, sprints, pipelines, boards, and work items.
  • Design, develop, and maintain application components supporting Mail Service Center, Motor Fleet Management, Non-Public Education, and State Construction (Interscope).
  • Develop and maintain ASP.NET web applications and standalone utilities used across multiple divisions.
  • Support secure coding practices, application deployment, and application reliability.
  • Support applications across cloud and on-premise environments.
  • Collaborate with technical teams and agency staff to identify requirements and implement effective solutions.
  • Troubleshoot application, server, database, and deployment issues.
  • Support ongoing system maintenance, enhancements, and platform operations.

Requirements

Required Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience with Windows Server administration.
  • 3+ years of experience with SQL Server database administration.
  • 3+ years of experience with Windows Server environments, migrations, certificates, service accounts, and multi-tier architectures.
  • 3+ years of experience managing complex environments across Development, QA, Test, Training, and Production.
  • 3+ years of experience working directly with non-IT agency staff.
  • Experience supporting enterprise server and database environments.
  • Strong understanding of Windows Server administration and enterprise infrastructure.
  • Strong SQL Server database administration skills.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work across application development, server administration, database administration, and DevOps responsibilities.
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience with Azure DevOps, including pipelines, iterations, boards, and work items.
  • Experience with Azure-hosted Development and QA environments.
  • Experience supporting DIT-hosted Production, Test, and Training environments.
  • Experience developing and maintaining ASP.NET applications.
  • Experience with Windows Server refresh and migration projects.
  • Experience supporting secure coding and application deployment practices.
