What you'll be doing


You'll be joining CIBC's Core Banking and Payments Technology Team. You'll be at the heart of CIBC's digital transformation, building easy, flexible, and personalized banking solutions to enhance client experience and change the way that people bank. As an Application Developer, you'll assist in developing, testing, and supporting the implementation of cross-functional, multi-platform application systems. Within a team of senior team members, you'll broaden your technical skills and help build the bank of the future.

How You'll Succeed

  • Programming Skills: Capability of Designing, developing, and maintaining backend services and REST APIs using Go and Java. Must be able to develop code and test computer programs for complex assignments related to payments. Review, analyze, and modify programming systems, including encoding, testing, and debugging. Build full-stack solutions that integrate with multiple systems, data sources, and external APIs.

  • Systems Implementation: Participate in the technical design, development, and integration of cross functional, multi-platform application systems.

  • Strategic Development & Execution:Perform and coordinate complex solution design activities. Understand the business requirements and translate them into system and application design that is aligned with our technology roadmap.Design and document the technical functionality, infrastructure, interfaces, and integrations. Lead the design of cost-effective and innovative solutions to meet both businessobjectivesand the goal of operational efficiency.

  • People Leadership -Lead and coach a high performing group team of individuals via indirect reporting. Share knowledge and collaborate tocome up witheffective solutions to problems.

  • Relationship Management -Work closely with clients and business partners to develop, test, and implement applicationprogram. Impact and improve the business by advising application owners on the technology possibilities and requirements.

Who You Are.

  • You candemonstrateexperience of 5+ yearsrelated to payment systems specific to card issuing side. Must have familiarity with VISA/Mastercard network and card transaction lifecycle. Should have an experience of working on the vendor products (writing requirements, validating the solution). Must have an experience of softwaredevelopment ,preferably using Go Lang along as this roles will also require inhouse development along with vendor product. Familiarity with Java, C will be an asset. Strong knowledge of relational databases (e.g., Azure PostgreSQL, Azure SQL, Oracle) including schema design, query tuning, and migrations. Hands-on 8+ years of experience integrating APIs, and event-driven systems (e.g., Solace). Experience or exposure to Docker, Kubernetes / OpenShift, and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) will be an asset. Proficient with Bash, PowerShell and optionally Python.. Familiarity with mTLS, JWT, and secure API design practices. Understanding of OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Splunk, or similar monitoring and tracing frameworks. Familiarity of Git and collaborative development workflows. It is an asset if you have Experience in cloud environments (Azure). Exposure to microservice architecture and service mesh (e.g., Istio). Knowledge of financial, payments, or high-throughput transaction systems. Experience in performance tuning and capacity planning of distributed systems.
