Project Overview:
The rapid growth of AI and digitalization is fueling unprecedented demand for data centers that require large, reliable sources of energy. In response to this market trend, the Renewables & Clean Power (R&CP) team have signed an early works contract to build one of the largest gas fired power generation facilities in the U.S. This project is of significant scale and complexity, and our team is helping the customer progress early-stage development, that would lead to the start of full EPC delivery this year. The candidate will act as the Cost Engineer on the upcoming project. The candidate may start in the home office in Reston, Houston or Cheyenne, Wyoming, as single status, to support preconstruction planning, ahead of project mobilization to the field when the candidate will locate on a long-term assignment to Cheyenne, Wyoming. This position is contingent upon project award.
Job Summary:
In this role, you will perform routine cost estimating, analysis, and control activities and support the implementation of cost monitoring and control standards, preparation of cost data, and the project trend program. You will assist with budget allocation and developing quantity takeoffs, project codes, and application unit rates. Your work will help ensure projects stay on budget and excel. #LI-ML1
Major Responsibilities:
  • Performs routine cost estimating, analysis, and control activities, as directed
  • Supports the implementation of cost monitoring and control standards, techniques, systems, and reports
  • Assists with budget allocation and reporting/cost control for specific construction discipline or group of disciplines
  • Supports the preparation of cost data for proposals or contracts
  • Assists in the development of quantity takeoffs for a specific discipline or specialty
  • Assists in developing specific project codes of accounts and recommends appropriate modifications and revisions
  • Supports the project trend program
  • Assists in the development and application of unit rates (cost and job hours) to quantity takeoffs

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 2-5 years of relevant experience or 6-9 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Recognized degree in Engineering or Construction Management, OR equivalent Project Controls experience.
  • Experience performing quantity takeoffs, statistical analysis, and computer operations, or skilled in understanding technical processes, engineering drawings, quantity determinations, and mathematical and financial reports.
  • Knowledge in capital cost and services estimating.
  • Intermediate level of knowledge of engineering, procurement, contracts, construction, and startup work processes, as performed by Bechtel.
  • Knowledge of engineering and construction management customarily acquired over time through specialized instruction or practical experience.
  • Knowledge of financial reporting systems and controller account codes, and understanding of Controller instructions, which impact Project Controls (including Project Financial Status Reports and Earned Revenue Determination Data).
  • Skilled in oral and written communication.
  • Knowledge in the use of computers for executing work processes.
