Job description

ICF is seeking an Automation Tester with strong experience supporting complex Appian environments, automated testing activities, and software quality assurance initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to execute and maintain automated testing solutions, support regression and integration testing efforts, and assist with validation activities related to Appian modernization and plugin remediation initiatives. This role requires strong attention to detail, analytical troubleshooting skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively within Agile delivery environments.

Responsibilities:

Automated Testing & QA Execution

  • Develop, execute, and maintain automated test suites supporting Appian applications, integrations, and custom plugins

  • Execute functional, regression, integration, and system testing activities for complex software solutions

  • Support validation efforts associated with Appian platform upgrades, plugin remediation, and modernization activities

  • Analyze failing automation tests, troubleshoot root causes, and document testing issues and defects

  • Create and maintain automated and manual test cases, test scripts, and testing documentation

  • Ensure testing coverage aligns with development priorities, release schedules, and project objectives

  • Assist with defect tracking, reproduction, retesting, and remediation verification activities

Automation Framework Support
  • Maintain and enhance existing automated testing frameworks to improve reliability and testing efficiency

  • Develop and maintain automated testing scripts using FitNesse for Appian, Ruby/JRuby, or similar automation tools

  • Support Jenkins-based automation pipelines and scheduled test execution activities

  • Assist with troubleshooting automation execution failures and testing environment issues

  • Support containerized or standardized testing environments where applicable

  • Collaborate with developers and QA leads to improve automation stability and test coverage

Quality Assurance & Test Coordination
  • Participate in test planning, test execution, risk identification, and quality review activities

  • Coordinate with developers, Scrum Masters, Business Analysts, and stakeholders to clarify testing requirements and priorities

  • Validate software functionality against business and technical requirements

  • Support user acceptance testing (UAT) coordination and release readiness activities where needed

  • Ensure test results, defects, and testing artifacts are properly documented and tracked

Agile Delivery & Collaboration
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives

  • Provide regular updates on testing progress, risks, defects, and automation health

  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment focused on delivery quality and continuous improvement

  • Support knowledge-sharing initiatives across the broader Appian practice, including exposure to Appian AI capabilities where applicable

Required Skills:

  • 3+ years of professional experience in software testing, automated testing, or quality assurance activities

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 2+ years of experience supporting automated testing efforts within Appian or other low-code platform environments

  • 2+ years of experience executing or maintaining automated testing frameworks using FitNesse, Ruby/JRuby, or similar automation technologies

  • 2+ years of experience executing functional, regression, integration, and system testing activities for complex software systems

  • 2+ years of experience supporting CI/CD testing activities and automated test execution pipelines

  • 2+ years of experience utilizing Jira, Xray, Git/GitHub, or similar testing and source control tools

  • US Citizenship or Green Card is required (required by the federal government for this position).

  • Must be able to obtain Public Trust clearance.

  • MUST RESIDE IN THE United States (U.S.) and the work MUST BE PERFORMED in the United States (U.S.), as this work is for a federal contract and laws do apply

Preferred Skills:

  • 5+ years of professional experience in software testing, automated testing, or quality assurance activities

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within cross-functional Agile teams

  • Experience with FitNesse for Appian or similar Appian-focused automation tools

  • Experience supporting Appian platform upgrades, plugin remediation, or modernization initiatives

  • Familiarity with Jenkins, Docker, containerized testing environments, or Kubernetes-based deployment approaches

  • Experience supporting AWS-hosted or cloud-based testing environments

  • Familiarity with SQL, APIs, and enterprise integration testing approaches

  • Exposure to Appian plugin validation, custom component testing, or integration testing

  • Exposure to Appian AI capabilities, AI-assisted workflows, or emerging Appian platform features

  • Experience supporting federal government or public sector technology programs

  • Experience stabilizing or improving legacy automation frameworks

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.

The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is:

$67,355.00 - $114,503.00Nationwide Remote Office (US99)
