Job description

MDW Associates is seeking an experienced Appian Lead Platform Developer to support the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) in leading the design, development, modernization, and sustainment of enterprise business applications built on the Appian Low-Code Platform. The Lead Platform Developer serves as the technical lead for Appian solutions, providing architecture guidance, development oversight, mentoring, and hands-on implementation support across the full software development lifecycle.

The ideal candidate possesses deep Appian expertise, strong systems integration experience, and a proven ability to lead Agile development teams delivering mission-critical business applications.

This position is fully remote with occasional travel required to support customer meetings, program reviews, or project activities (if applicable).

The Appian Lead Platform Developer may perform a combination of some or all of the following duties:

  • Lead the architecture, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of Appian applications and workflow solutions.
  • Serve as the technical authority for Appian platform capabilities, best practices, governance standards, and development methodologies.
  • Design scalable and maintainable solutions utilizing Appian records, process models, interfaces, integrations, and data fabrics.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, product owners, analysts, architects, and development teams to translate requirements into technical solutions.
  • Develop and maintain integrations with enterprise systems, databases, APIs, and cloud-based platforms.
  • Perform code reviews and establish development standards to ensure quality, security, performance, and maintainability.
  • Troubleshoot complex system issues and provide root cause analysis and resolution recommendations.
  • Lead Agile ceremonies, technical planning sessions, sprint reviews, and solution demonstrations.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level developers and provide technical leadership across project teams.
  • Support DevSecOps practices, deployment automation, configuration management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor application performance and proactively identify opportunities for optimization and modernization.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, design artifacts, deployment procedures, and operational support materials.

Required Experience/Skills:

  • 5+ years of experience developing solutions on the Appian platform.
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Experience with JIRA and Confluence
  • Experience leading technical teams and overseeing the delivery of enterprise application development projects.
  • Experience designing and implementing Appian applications in production environments.
  • Experience throughout the full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), including requirements analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and sustainment.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments.
  • Experience integrating Appian with external systems using REST, SOAP, APIs, web services, and relational databases.
  • Experience conducting code reviews and establishing development standards and best practices.
  • Active Appian Certified Lead Developer Certification.
  • Candidates may work from any U.S. location with reliable high-speed internet access.
