Fellowship Program At Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital Of Chicago

Ann & Robert H. This is a one year program with no guarantee of employment after completion. Candidates must have already graduated from their APP program and be ready to start in November of 2026.

General Summary of Position Responsibility

Twelve-month long fellowship - training program for a new graduate APP to develop expertise in the recognition, evaluation, acute management, and complex care of the hospitalized child. Training includes 6 months of clinical experience divided between hospital based medicine, pediatric surgery, oncology and critical care. At the end of 6 months, trainee would be designated to primary in one of the above areas based on current or expected opening and would continue to practice in that area for the following 6 months.

Additional required training would include weekly didactic sessions, monthly SIM and quarterly transition into practice seminars.

The Advanced Practice Provider works within the multidisciplinary clinical team(s) to obtain further knowledge and clinical experiences. They will learn evidenced based practice. They will gain experience and learn about professional activities and promote the advancement of the Advanced Practice at Lurie Children's. The role is unique to the Advanced Practice Nurses in accordance with individual credentialing and privileging through the Medical Staff Office.

Essential Job Functions
  • Provides expert clinical care, education, consultation, advocacy research, leadership, and mentorship.
  • Manages primary, acute and chronic health problems through comprehensive history and physical examination assessment and diagnosis.
  • Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests and procedures.
  • Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions and performs other therapeutic or corrective measures to treat illness and improve health status.
  • Collaborates and coordinates care with medical team to deliver evidenced-based care and establish best practices in clinical care.
  • If applicable, participates in research design, implementation, and interpretation.
  • Meets the Medical Staffs Allied Health Practitioners core measures of performance related to patient care, medical knowledge, practice-based learning and improvement, interpersonal communication skills, professionalism, and system-based practice.
  • Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.
  • The fellow's work hours will be scheduled in accordance with the fellowship program's standards, to average 40-hours per week. The fellow will be expected to work differing shifts, to include weekends, and nights.
  • Other job functions as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Completion of Physician Assistant or Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner program required.
  • Licensure in the State of Illinois as an APRN or PA is required.
  • Clinical privileges through credentialing by the Medical Staff Office achieved within 90 days of hire. Practices under the direction of advanced practice provider or physician providers until fully credentialed and privileged.
  • Experience as delineated in clinical privileges through credentialing by the Medical Staff Office.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Demonstrates excellent people skills, basic computer skills, and strong verbal and written communication skills.

Pay Range: $138,403.20-$228,363.20 Salary
