Job Description:

The Nebraska Department of Transportation's (NDOT) Construction Division is offering an opportunity for a college student interested in furthering their contract administration, plans, specification and construction knowledge and experience.

Job Duties:

The selected candidate will complete contract administration work and will track and review contract change orders, subcontract approvals, and contractor insurance requirements. This will include communication with field engineers, consultants, contractors, and sureties to resolve issues. The work involved will be of a broad scope, complexity, and diversity. In addition to the primary responsibilities related to change orders, subcontracting, and insurance review and approval, the selected individual may gain experience with cost estimating, reviewing plan changes, preparation of letting packages, contract time allowance determination, project final review, responding to requests for information and other Construction Division responsibilities.


Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Must be a three-fourths student in good standing majoring in a discipline or field related to the work to be assigned.

Preferred Qualifications: A sophomore majoring in fields related to horizontal or vertical design or construction.

Other:

  • Applicants must be at least a three fourths time student majoring in engineering, architecture, construction management or related field and be able to work at least 12 hours a week when classes are in session, 16 hours a week preferred.
  • Temporary full-time employment may be available during scheduled school breaks.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Effective communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience with Bluebeam or Adobe Acrobat a plus.
