Manager, Platform App Development:

Reporting to the Director, Platform Development & Business Intelligence, this technical management position will play an instrumental role in developing and managing custom AI use cases on the Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including conversational AI agents/chatbots. The Manager, Platform Development will be responsible for the day-to-day management of development projects, working closely with LA28's technology partners to ensure projects are delivered on schedule. The role requires a curious and inquisitive mindset, focused on diligent requirement gathering and a deep understanding of project goals. Beyond standard project management, this role will act as a service manager for custom AI GCP projects, bridging the gap between technical development and operational strategy.
The candidate shouldexhibitstrong technical and project management skills, and the ability to manage multiple solutions at a rapid pace. The position will requirecross functionalcollaboration and partnership to drive technicalobjectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the lead service manager for custom AI projects built on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), ensuring operational stability and alignment with strategic business objectives.
  • Lead requirement gathering sessions by asking insightful, curious questions to translate complex business needs into actionable technical specifications.
  • Oversee end-to-end development of custom applications on GCP, leveraging services like Dialogflow CX, Cloud Functions, and Cloud Storage ("knowing how the sausage is made").
  • Act as a compelling storyteller and presenter, translating technical concepts and project status updates into engaging narratives for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative team environment, embracing a creative "yes, and" approach to problem-solving.

Development Expert:

  • Proactively prototype and deploy chatbots using other native GCP conversational and generative AI suites (such as Vertex AI Agent Builder or Gemini models) to evaluate new capabilities.
  • Proven track record managing projects on GCP, demonstrating a strong understanding of cloud development lifecycles.
  • Hands-on familiarity with core GCP services which are involved in developing custom chatbots, specifically DialogFlow CX, Cloud Functions, and Cloud Storage.
  • Perform hands-on cloud configurations and basic scripting to support custom AI integrations, moving comfortably from high-level architecture to direct execution in the GCP Console.
  • Troubleshoot and refine live integrations, working directly within GCP Cloud Functions and Cloud Storage to debug configurations without solely relying on external developers.
  • Champion Application-to-Application (A2A) architecture best practices to ensure scalable, robust, and efficient system integrations.
Background & Requirements:
  • 5+ years of experience in technical project or program management, with a specific focus on delivering cloud-based solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage vendor relationships and external consulting partners to drive on-time delivery.
  • 2+ years of experience directly configuring and building conversational AI agents (in GCP or other software platforms).
  • Strong understanding of A2A architecture, with preferred direct experience implementing custom A2A integration workflows.
  • Skilled in business analysis and requirement gathering, with a history of digging deep to understand stakeholders' true needs.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with a proven ability to present ideas, lead workshops, and tell stories that align cross-functional teams.
Expectations:
  • Action-oriented and proactive
  • Familiar with project management software tools (e.g. Smartsheet, Jira, Azure DevOps)
  • Able to translate business requirements into technical requirements
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment, providing project management and supporting technical abilities for various AI projects and initiatives
  • Proven ability of building good interpersonal relationships with people across the organization, while balancing assertiveness and setting expectations with diplomacy
  • A collaborative mindset: someone who prioritizes the team and fosters a culture of high performance without ego
  • Able to implement and manage change effectively
  • An excitement for the committee's mission of building the best Olympic and Paralympic Games, while thinking differently all along the way
Education:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications in Cloud Architecture (Google Cloud Professional preferred)
  • PMP certification a plus
