What is an Antenna HFSS engineer?

Antenna HFSS engineers are professionals who specialize in designing, simulating, and analyzing antennas using Ansys HFSS (High-Frequency Structure Simulator) software. They apply electromagnetic theory and computer-aided design tools to create antennas for applications such as wireless communication, radar, satellites, and IoT devices. Their responsibilities typically include model creation, simulation setup, result interpretation, and optimization to ensure antenna performance meets project requirements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Antenna HFSS engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Antenna HFSS Engineer, a strong background in electromagnetic theory, antenna design, and a relevant engineering degree (such as Electrical or Electronics Engineering) is essential. Proficiency in using Ansys HFSS simulation software, familiarity with other CAD/EM tools, and experience in RF/microwave measurement techniques are typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are valuable soft skills that help in collaborative design and troubleshooting. These skills ensure accurate antenna modeling, efficient project execution, and innovation in developing high-performance antenna systems.

What are some common challenges faced when working as an Antenna HFSS engineer, and how can they be addressed?

Antenna HFSS Engineers often encounter challenges such as accurately simulating complex antenna structures, managing large data files, and ensuring results correlate with real-world measurements. Addressing these issues requires a strong understanding of electromagnetic theory, expertise in using HFSS software, and close collaboration with hardware and test teams. Continuous learning and staying updated with the latest software features, as well as effective communication with cross-functional teams, help in overcoming these challenges and delivering reliable antenna designs.

What is the difference between Antenna Hfss vs RF Engineer?

AspectAntenna HfssRF Engineer
Required credentialsBachelor's in Electrical Engineering, certifications in HFSS or antenna designBachelor's or higher in Electrical Engineering, RF certifications often preferred
Work environmentDesign labs, simulation software, research facilitiesField testing, labs, design offices
Industry usagePrimarily in antenna and RF component designBroadly in wireless, telecommunications, and RF systems

While Antenna Hfss specialists focus on antenna design using simulation tools like HFSS, RF Engineers have a broader role in designing and testing RF systems. Both roles require electrical engineering knowledge, but Antenna Hfss is more specialized in antenna modeling, whereas RF Engineers work across various RF components and systems.

Job description

Reach is the industry's leading high-performance wireless power-at-a-distance company. Our wireless power changes electric power delivery in the same way that Wi-Fi changed data delivery. We built our system on state-of-the-art, patented technology, including high-efficiency power beaming circuits, network optimization algorithms, and adaptive electromagnetic surfaces, delivering a highly scalable, safe, and easy-to-use power platform. Our solution is ideally suited for manufacturing, government, energy, logistics, and retail. It provides flexible access to power where and when needed, streamlining device deployment and improving device performance. We have raised funding from top tier VC's and are continuing to build out our exceptional team to share our vision and solution with the world.
You will develop antennas and antenna arrays for Reach state-of-the-art wireless power delivery system. Your technical know-how and innovation skills are key to designing cutting-edge products in a fast-paced environment. You will work with other engineers to integrate antenna and antenna arrays in our system. This position requires hands-on experience and strong analytical skills to design, implement, test, and troubleshoot complex use cases of a complex, first-of-its kind system. It also requires experience in integration with complex software algorithms.
Key Position Responsibilities
  • Design and implement antenna, antenna arrays for high frequency of operation from 2.4GHz to 24GHz.
  • Investigate, study, and introduce new antenna designs and components. Research new approaches and techniques for future product versions.
  • Perform computer simulations and PCB antenna prototyping.
  • Collaborate with PM/Mechanical/RF/EE teams to define antenna requirements and performance goals.
  • Perform board level and product level EM simulations for best-in-class transmission performance, spatial co-existence, and emissions.
  • Product design documentation using Reach PLM system.
  • Own antenna design for manufacturability.
