Job description

Position Summary:

The Test Engineer is responsible for overseeing the final test department by executing, analyzing, and maintaining electrical and mechanical test processes for medium and high-voltage power cables. This role ensures products meet applicable standards, customer specifications, and internal quality requirements through rigorous testing, data analysis, and process control.

Key Responsibilities

Supervision: responsible for Supervision of the Final Test operators as well as technical (hands-on testing and diagnostics) and procedural (ensuring cables are tested per specification and industry standards).

Testing and Validation: perform electrical testing, including:

  • Partial Discharge (PD) testing
  • AC Withstand testing
  • Insulation resistance and continuity testing

Conduct mechanical and physical tests:

  • Tensile strength and elongation
  • Dimensional verification
  • Validate cable performance against applicable industry standards (UL 1072, ANSI/ICEA S-97-682, ANSI/ICEA S-94-649, AEIC CS8)

Process Control & Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure adherence to documented quality control procedures and test methods
  • Monitor critical test parameters and identify deviations or anomalies
  • Support nonconformance investigations and corrective actions (RCA, CAPA)
  • Maintain traceability of test results to material lots and production runs

Equipment & Calibration:

  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot high-voltage test equipment
  • Ensure all test instruments are calibrated and maintained per schedule
  • Assist in validation and commissioning of new test systems.

Data Analysis & Reporting:

  • Record, analyze, and interpret test data for compliance and trends to ensure Certified Test Reports are completed on time.
  • Support internal audits and customer inspections with accurate documentation.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities to improve test efficiency, accuracy, and repeatability
  • Support implementation of new testing methods or technologies
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to resolve quality issues

Education

  • AS/BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (Equivalent experience in cable testing environments may be considered)

Experience

  • 1-3 years in cable manufacturing, high-voltage testing, or related field
  • Hands-on experience with MV/HV cable testing (PD, AC withstand preferred)
  • Familiarity with industry standards ((UL 1072, ANSI/ICEA S-97-682, ANSI/ICEA S-94-649, AEIC CS8)

Skills Required

  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical thinking
  • Effective communication with cross0functional teams and stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams
