Department: Ultrasound
Position Type: Full time, 36 hours/week, Non-Exempt
Schedule: 12:30 pm - 1:00 am, Thursday - Friday, and 5:00 pm - 5:30 am, Saturday
Your role with us
As an ultrasound technologist at Salem Health Hospital and Clinics, you will play a key role in providing high-quality diagnostic imaging to support exceptional patient care across a diverse population-from pediatrics through geriatrics. In this role, your work directly supports clinical decision-making while creating a compassionate and reassuring experience for every patient you serve.
You'll be part of a collaborative and team-based imaging department. At Salem Hospital, all sonographers have been registered through the field's gold-standard licensing body - the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and collectively hold more than 50 specialty credentials. Our ultrasound team partners closely with radiologists, physicians, unit clerks, and patient transport to ensure each exam runs smoothly and efficiently. On a typical shift, you can expect a steady but manageable workflow, allowing you to focus on both quality and patient-centered care.

What you'll do
  • Perform a variety of ultrasound exams, including general (abdomen, pelvic, OB), small parts, and breast studies.
  • Assist radiologists with invasive procedures, ensuring proper use of supplies, equipment, and safety protocols.
  • Tailor imaging techniques to meet the needs of pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients while maintaining exam quality.
  • Analyze images for completeness, gather additional views as needed, and provide thorough documentation with proper patient identification and annotation.
  • Correlate sonographic findings with clinical history and prior imaging to assist in diagnosis.
  • Maintain, adjust, and clean ultrasound equipment; promptly report any issues to your supervisor.
  • Utilize PACS, RIS, and HIS systems to manage orders, track patient information, and ensure accurate billing.
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, families, and healthcare providers, protecting patient privacy at all times.
  • Support departmental operations by keeping work areas organized, assisting colleagues, and training others as required.

Required qualifications
  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in Sonography.
  • Licensed in Sonography from the Oregon Board of Medical Imaging (OBMI).

Additional information
  • Imaging specialty - Abdomen required within one year of hire from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
