What kind of jobs can you get with an illustration and animation degree?

With an illustration and animation degree, you can pursue roles such as animator, character designer, story artist, storyboard artist, concept artist, and visual development artist. What does a typical day look like for someone working in Animation Illustration?

A typical day in Animation Illustration often involves collaborating with creative directors and animators to develop storyboards, character designs, and visual assets for projects such as films, TV shows, or video games. You'll spend much of your time drawing, refining illustrations, and bringing static images to life through animation, while also participating in team meetings to discuss project progress and incorporate feedback. Working in this field can require balancing multiple deadlines and adapting quickly to changes in creative direction. The role fosters a collaborative and innovative environment where creatives work closely together to achieve high visual and narrative quality.

Powered by LOIS, the Legal Operating Intelligence System, Filevine connects context across every matter to transform legal operations from reactive to proactive. ABOUT THE ROLE
We're looking for a Senior Motion Graphics Designer to own and elevate Filevine's motion design craft from brand campaigns and product launches to social content and executive presentations. This is a hands-on, high-impact role for a designer who thinks in motion and leads with creative vision.
You'll work closely with brand designers, video producers, content strategists, and marketing leadership to shape how the Filevine brand moves. You'll also help maintain the standards and systems that keep our motion work cohesive, scalable, and unmistakably ours.
What You'll Do
  • Design and produce high-quality motion graphics, animations, and visual effects for marketing campaigns, product explainer videos, social media, digital ads, event content, and executive presentations.
  • Lead motion design projects from concept through final delivery, managing timelines, incorporating stakeholder feedback, and maintaining quality at every stage.
  • Collaborate with brand designers, video producers, content strategists, and marketing teams to develop cohesive visual narratives that reflect the Filevine brand.
  • Build and evolve Filevine's motion design system, including animation principles, reusable templates, and usage guidelines that scale across the organization.
  • Mentor and provide creative direction to junior designers on animation craft, workflow best practices, and motion design fundamentals.
  • Partner with external production teams on editing, color grading, sound design integration, and visual effects for long-form content.
  • Optimize deliverables for multiple formats and platforms: social, web, broadcast, and internal presentations, ensuring technical specs and brand standards are always met.
  • Stay ahead of trends in motion design, emerging tools, and AI-assisted workflows, bringing fresh thinking and experimentation to the creative team.

What We're Looking For
Required
  • 8+ years of professional motion design experience in a tech company, creative agency, or in-house creative team, with a portfolio that shows serious range.
  • Expert proficiency in Adobe After Effects and the Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, Illustrator, Photoshop).
  • Deep understanding of animation principles, motion theory, typography in motion, color theory, and visual storytelling.
  • Demonstrated experience working within brand systems and the ability to evolve motion guidelines without losing brand coherence.
  • Strong project management skills. You can manage multiple projects simultaneously, self-direct, and hit deadlines in a fast-moving environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and the confidence to present and defend creative decisions to stakeholders at all levels.
  • A collaborative, low-ego approach and genuine enthusiasm for the craft of motion design.

Bonus Points
  • Proficiency in Cinema 4D, Blender, or other 3D tools for titles, product visualizations, or abstract brand animation.
  • Experience with character animation, illustration-based animation, or kinetic typography.
  • Familiarity with Figma for cross-functional collaboration with product and brand designers.
  • Experience at a B2B SaaS or legal tech company.
  • Hands-on video production experience (lighting, camera operation, on-set direction).
  • Comfort working with or exploring AI-assisted creative tools (e.g., Runway, Pika, Calvary etc.).
