Sherwood South Animal Hospital & Emergency Center is hiring a compassionate and skilled Veterinary Technician to join our general practice team within a dynamic 24/7 emergency and critical care hospital. This role is ideal for technicians who enjoy variety, teamwork, and practicing quality medicine in a fast‑paced, supportive environment.
 
Our hospital serves dogs and cats across East & West Baton Rouge Parish, Zachary, Denham Springs, Central, and Prairieville, offering primary care, urgent care, emergency services, dentistry, boarding, and grooming—all under one roof.
 
What You’ll Do
As a Veterinary Technician, you’ll play a vital role in daily patient care by:
  • Assisting veterinarians during exams, treatments, and procedures
  • Supporting anesthesia, surgical assisting, and post‑operative care
  • Preparing patients and instruments for surgery
  • Monitoring anesthetic patients and observing changes in condition
  • Collecting laboratory samples and performing in‑house diagnostics
  • Operating digital radiography and other diagnostic equipment
  • Administering medications and prescribed treatments
  • Recording accurate patient histories and medical records
  • Assisting with patient admissions and discharges
  • Using safe restraint techniques and following hospital protocols
  • Maintaining clean, organized, and sterile exam, treatment, and lab areas
  • Collaborating with doctors, technicians, and support staff
  • Supporting and mentoring fellow team members as needed
 
What We’re Looking For
Experience & Skills
  • Experience working as a veterinary technician in a clinical setting with direct patient care
  • CVT / LVT / RVT credentials encouraged, but not required
  • Experience with anesthesia monitoring and surgical assisting
  • Strong attention to detail and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment
  • Team‑oriented, professional, and compassionate demeanor
