Job Details:Mercer University College of Pharmacy is searching for a Research Scientist on the Atlanta, Georgia campus.


Responsibilities:

The postdoctoral Research Scientist in the Hasan Lab at Mercer University will serve as a senior-level investigator leading independent and collaborative research projects in cardiovascular drug discovery. Projects in the lab are focused on understanding and targeting ion channels and G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) to identify novel therapeutic targets, and develop new drug candidates for hypertension, stroke and cardiometabolic diseases.

The incumbent will design and execute studies using a comprehensive and integrative experimental approach that includes pressure myography, Ca2+ imaging, advanced microscopy, flow cytometry, genetic approaches, cell culture, molecular biology, luminescence-based assays, ELISA, Western blotting, enzyme activity assays, immunocytochemistry and immunohistochemistry, biophysical analyses of ligand-receptor interactions, blood pressure analysis, as well as in silico modeling and molecular dynamics simulations.

In addition, the postdoctoral Research Scientist will contribute to grant development, assist the PI in manuscript preparation, and support laboratory operations, ensuring high standards of rigor, reproducibility, and compliance.

This position exercises a high degree of scientific independence and contributes to the strategic direction and growth of the research program.

Required Qualifications:

A PhD in Pharmacology, Physiology, Molecular Biology, or a closely related biomedical discipline and a minimum of three years of postdoctoral experience demonstrating the ability to conduct independent research and contribute to the development and direction of an established research program are required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Substantial experience in grant and manuscript preparation and publications.

  • Experience contributing to or leading competitive grant applications.

  • Experience with experimental approaches using animal models of disease, including hypertension, stroke, diabetes, and pulmonary hypertension.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Solid knowledge in cardiovascular sciences, metabolic disorders and intracellular signal transduction pathways.

  • Proficiency in experimental techniques relevant to animal models of diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, stroke, and pulmonary hypertension.

  • Ability to design, execute, and manage independent research projects from conception to publication.

  • Proven ability to design and lead independent research projects and contribute to competitive grant applications.

  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and leadership skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

  • Solid knowledge in cardiovascular sciences, metabolic disorders and intracellular signal transduction pathways.

  • Proficiency in experimental techniques relevant to animal models of diseases such as hypertension, stroke, preeclampsia, pulmonary hypertension, and diabetes.

  • Ability to design, execute, and manage independent research projects from conception to publication.

  • Proven ability to design and lead independent research projects and contribute to competitive grant applications.

  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
