What is an animal relocation?

An Animal Relocation job involves the safe transportation of animals from one location to another, often for rescue organizations, wildlife conservation, shelters, or private owners. This can include relocating stray pets, endangered wildlife, or animals in unsafe environments to better habitats. Professionals in this field ensure the animals' well-being during transport by following safety protocols and legal requirements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in animal relocation?

To excel in Animal Relocation, you need knowledge of animal handling, species-specific welfare requirements, and logistics coordination, often supported by certifications in animal care or transportation safety. Familiarity with animal transport equipment, GPS tracking, interstate/international transportation regulations, and animal health documentation systems is important. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication set top professionals apart in this field. These abilities are crucial for ensuring the safe, humane, and efficient relocation of animals while meeting client and legal expectations.

What are some common challenges faced by animal relocation specialists?

Animal Relocation specialists often encounter challenges such as managing unpredictable animal behaviors, navigating complex transportation regulations, and ensuring animal welfare during sometimes lengthy journeys. Weather conditions, last-minute travel adjustments, and coordinating with clients or agencies can also add layers of complexity to the job. Success in this role requires adaptability and thorough planning to address these issues and minimize stress for both animals and handlers. Collaboration with veterinarians, logistics teams, and animal caretakers is frequently necessary to ensure smooth, compliant relocations. Being proactive and detail-oriented can help you handle these challenges effectively and build a strong reputation in the industry.

Job description

Established Veterinary Hospital Seeks to Grow DVM Team
Thomasville Animal Hospital is looking for a veterinarian to join our growing privately owned veterinary practice which focuses on high end small animal and equine medicine and surgery. Located in the Red Hills region, we are surrounded by hunting plantations and farms with working dogs and horses, along with a wide variety of household pets among a growing population which still manages to maintain a great rural town atmosphere. The primary need is in our small animal department, but there are opportunities in the equine department for interested candidates.
Thomasville Animal Hospital is well established and has been privately owned for over 30 years. Because the hospital has its own full in-house lab suite, fully equipped surgery room, digital radiology, modern ultrasound, endoscopy, and advanced reproductive capabilities, it sees a large variety of cases in small animal and equine medicine and surgery.
While mentorship and numerous continuing education opportunities offer new veterinarians a chance to grow and expand technical skills, individualized medicine is practiced allowing doctors to choose the right path for each patient. Each doctor's talents and contributions bring a fresh perspective and new strength to our employee-centric and family friendly culture. Developing new areas of interest are encouraged and supported with continuing education, equipment and time. Some examples include certification in acupuncture, veterinary medical manipulation, and further training in echocardiograms and orthopedics.
Job Benefits:
  • Medical and Dental Insurance
  • 401K Retirement Plan
  • Competitive annual salary plus profit sharing bonus
  • 15 days PTO and/or paid maternity/paternity leave
  • Relocation assistance and/or sign on bonus
  • Flexible scheduling focused on work-life balance
  • Collaboration with other great veterinarians
  • Wide variety of cases
  • Ability to send to referral hospitals close by, ERs if needed
  • A great place to live and raise a family
  • Privately owned hospital well established in the community
  • Mentorship and paid continuing education opportunities
  • and so much more

Thomasville Animal Hospital is a member of VMG which provides endless resources to the staff and practice as a whole. Specific continuing education courses geared towards recent graduates are offered by VMG to help with transitioning into private practice.
New grads are welcome to apply.
