How much do angiography jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 7, 2026, the average hourly pay for angiography in the United States is $31.37, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $26.68 and $34.13 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Angiography Technologist, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Angiography Technologist, you need a solid background in radiologic technology, anatomy, and patient care, typically supported by an associate’s or bachelor’s degree and ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) certification. Expertise in operating angiography imaging systems, contrast media administration, and familiarity with sterile techniques are crucial. Attention to detail, strong communication, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are standout soft skills for this role. These skills and qualities ensure accurate imaging, patient safety, and effective collaboration with physicians during complex vascular procedures.

What is the difference between Angiography vs Vascular Technologist?

AspectAngiographyVascular Technologist
CredentialsRadiologic technologist certification, specialized in angiographic proceduresVascular ultrasound certification, often ARDMS or CCI
Work EnvironmentHospitals, imaging centers, cath labsHospitals, outpatient clinics, vascular labs
Industry UsagePerformed by radiologists and specialized technologistsPerformed by vascular technologists and sonographers
Job FocusInvasive imaging of blood vessels using contrast dyeNon-invasive imaging of blood flow using ultrasound

While both roles involve vascular imaging, Angiography is an invasive procedure requiring contrast dye and specialized radiologic skills, often performed in cath labs. Vascular Technologists focus on non-invasive ultrasound imaging to assess blood flow and vessel health. Both roles are essential in vascular diagnosis but differ in techniques, credentials, and work settings.

What is angiography?

Angiography is a medical imaging technique used to visualize the inside of blood vessels and organs, particularly arteries, veins, and the heart chambers. This procedure involves injecting a special contrast dye into the bloodstream and then taking X-ray images to detect blockages, abnormalities, or other vascular conditions. Angiography is commonly used to diagnose problems such as coronary artery disease, aneurysms, or blood clots. The results can help guide treatment decisions like surgery or minimally invasive interventions.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in angiography departments?

Professionals in angiography departments often encounter challenges such as managing emergency cases that require quick decision-making and precise coordination with multidisciplinary teams like cardiologists, radiologists, and nurses. Maintaining strict adherence to radiation safety protocols is essential, as is handling sophisticated imaging equipment under time-sensitive conditions. Additionally, angiography staff must stay updated on the latest technological advancements and procedural techniques to provide the best patient outcomes. Effective communication and the ability to adapt to rapidly changing situations are key to thriving in this environment.

What is the highest paid imaging career?

In the field of medical imaging, radiologists typically have the highest salaries, often exceeding other imaging specialists such as radiologic technologists or sonographers. Radiologists require advanced medical degrees and specialized training in interpreting imaging studies like angiography, and their compensation reflects their extensive education and expertise.
