What is an angel startup?

An Angel Startup job typically refers to a role within an early-stage startup that has received funding from angel investors. These positions often require employees to wear multiple hats, working in a fast-paced and uncertain environment. Employees may be involved in various tasks such as product development, marketing, sales, or operations. Because startups are in their early stages, employees may receive equity or stock options as part of their compensation. Such roles are ideal for individuals who thrive in dynamic environments and are willing to take on challenges with limited resources.

What are some typical challenges faced by founders in an angel startup?

Founders in Angel Startups often encounter challenges such as securing initial funding, building a scalable business model, and attracting early customers or users. Rapidly adapting to market feedback, managing limited resources, and balancing multiple responsibilities—from product development to investor relations—are also common hurdles. These roles typically involve working in small, dynamic teams where flexibility and problem-solving are essential. Despite the challenges, this environment offers significant opportunities for accelerating professional growth, learning, and making a direct impact on the company's future.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in an angel startup?

Thriving as an Angel Startup founder requires strong entrepreneurial skills, financial acumen, and a solid understanding of business development in early-stage ventures. Familiarity with startup management tools, fundraising platforms, and business modeling frameworks is commonly valued, though formal certifications are less important than a track record of innovation and execution. Resilience, adaptability, and exceptional networking abilities distinguish successful founders in this highly competitive landscape. These skills are vital for navigating uncertainty, driving growth, and securing resources in an ever-evolving startup ecosystem.

Job description

Company Description

Foothill Ventures is a technology-focused venture fund based in Los Altos, California. We make pre-seed, seed (preferred), and A-round investments in startups across software, life science, and deep tech. We grew out of the TEEC Angel Fund, which made seed-stage, highly successful bets on companies like Zoom Communications, Carta, Plus.ai, WeRide.ai and Ginkgo Bioworks, all subsequent Unicorns.

We provide support to our portfolio companies in various areas, including recruiting and talent acquisition. This role is posted on our website for our portfolio companies.

Job Description

Portfolio Company Doable AI

About the role

We're building an AI-driven platform that executes QA browser tasks end-to-end. We're hiring a senior full-stack engineer who's excited about this direction and can own a key product/component-from architecture to delivery-while collaborating tightly with Product, UX, Product Ops, and customers.

What you'll do

  • Own a major component of our product (design, build, ship, and iterate).
  • Build full-stack features across web UI, backend services, and integrations.
  • Work closely with PM/UX to turn ambiguous problems into simple, delightful workflows.
  • Partner with Product Ops and customers to validate needs, iterate quickly, and drive adoption.
  • Use AI tooling to accelerate development, debugging, testing, and documentation.
  • Improve quality and velocity through strong engineering practices (testing, observability, code reviews, CI/CD).
Qualifications
  • 4+ years of software engineering experience with full-stack ownership in production systems.
  • Strong frontend skills (modern JS/TS frameworks) and backend/API development experience.
  • Track record of shipping quickly without sacrificing reliability or user experience.
  • Product-minded: comfortable with customer feedback loops and making tradeoffs.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication across functions (PM, UX, Ops).
  • Passion for AI agents/automation, browser workflows, or developer productivity.

Nice to have

  • Experience with test automation, QA tooling, Playwright/Selenium, or browser instrumentation.
  • Experience with LLM/agent systems, evals, prompt/tooling design, or workflow orchestration.
  • Startup experience (01, fast iteration, high ownership).

Why join

  • High ownership, direct customer impact, and rapid iteration.
  • Build the future of AI-driven QA and browser automation with a small, focused team.
