Summary
Provides general assistance to anesthesia providers before, during, and immediately following surgical procedures and activities. Supports the anesthesia care team through the cleaning of anesthesia equipment, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Supports anesthesia care team in stocking clinical sites.
Job Duties
  • Performs basic laboratory point of care testing for arterial blood gas analysis, blood coagulation test, serum glucose test, serum electrolytes test, and serum hemoglobin test.
  • Sets up supplies and assists in the placement of arterial lines, central lines, epidural catheters, and spinal anesthetics.
  • Makes documentation of damaged equipment and reports equipment problems to the appropriate authority.
  • Obtains blood and blood products and transfers lab specimens according to policy.
  • Acquires anesthesia equipment and supplies for surgical procedures and workroom.
  • Maintains and provides preventative maintenance on anesthesia equipment.
  • Follows procedural protocols associated with set up, maintenance, cleaning, and sterilization of equipment.
  • Distributes used/dirty equipment to appropriate area for decontamination and sterilization.
  • Transports anesthesia equipment and supply carts to off-site anesthetizing locations.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Less than 1 year
  • Ability to utilize critical thinking skills to triage tasks in high stress situations.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and sterile techniques.
  • Knowledge of the patient's rights and laws relative to those rights, such as HIPAA.
  • Managing one's own time and the time of others.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire

Preferred Qualifications
  • Cer.A.T. - Certified Anesthesia Technician ASATT - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire

Physical Demands
Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
