Job description

A research Intern Position is available in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine. This research internship is based within a clinical research program focused on improving the safety and effectiveness of perioperative GLP-1 receptor agonists. The program supports the design and conduct of clinical trials evaluating evidence-based strategies for managing GLP-1 receptor agonists before and after surgical or invasive procedures.

Interns work alongside investigators, research coordinators, and clinical staff to contribute to patient-oriented research. All duties and responsibilities are carried out in compliance with institutional policies, ethical research standards, and applicable federal and state regulations. LEARNING OBJECTIVES Develop an understanding of perioperative GLP-1 management principles: By the end of the internship, the intern will be able to explain the pharmacology of commonly used GLP-1 receptor agonists, and describe factors influencing perioperative interruption and resumption of these drugs.

Gain proficiency in clinical research methods and trial operations: The intern will be able to apply principles of clinical trial conduct by participating in patient screening, data collection, data entry, and protocol adherence activities, while demonstrating an understanding of ethical considerations, informed consent processes, and regulatory requirements in human subjects research. Develop skills in clinical data analysis and scientific communication: The intern will be able to summarize and interpret clinical trial data related to perioperative GLP-1 receptor agonists management, critically evaluate relevant literature, and effectively communicate findings through written reports, presentations, or manuscript contributions.
