About the Job
General Summary of Position
Plans organizes directs and evaluates the Anesthesiology department's operational activities. Supervises the daily activities of the Anesthesia Technicians.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops and contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality standards and safety standards. Ensures compliance with hospital/facility policies and procedures and governmental/accreditation regulations.
  • Ensures compliance for the revenue and expense budget of OR anesthesia supplies and equipment; ensures that department operates within budget. Manages inventory levels including ordering and maintaining departmental supply stock according to the departmental demand. Reviews monthly financial reports identifying and resolving variance issues.
  • Oversees and assists with the assembly and operation of specialized equipment such as humidification units; fiberoptic endoscopic equipment; rapid infusion devices/blood warmers; patient warming devices; neuromuscular devices; infusion pumps and syringes.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in meetings serves on committees and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Promotes effective interpersonal and interdepartmental relationships as observed and reviewed by The Chair of Anesthesia. Facilitates resolution of conflicts and problems as appropriate and adopts a team approach to work. Maintains a professional attitude when serving our patients physicians employees and visitors. Promotes and maintains positive relationships with all contacts.
  • Provides leadership and management for personnel dedicated to assisting anesthesia providers throughout the hospital. Oversees and maintains Department of Anesthesia compliance with Joint Commission requirements and standards within the operating room. Provides peri-operative technical support to the anesthesia professional staff for delivery of patient care.
  • Responsible for associate schedules/staffing processing payroll time and attendance personnel records reviewing job descriptions and service agreements.
  • Selects trains and orients department staff. Develops standards of performance evaluates performance and conducts performance management planning. Initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions. Maintains ongoing communication with subordinates to review programs provide feedback discuss new developments and exchange information.
  • Supervises and conducts any quality controls needed to return items after repair to service and recommends replacement of equipment as necessary. Maintains an inventory of equipment used by anesthesia to track repairs loaners and demos.
  • Supervises and directs the maintenance and appropriate function of anesthesia equipment by performing preventative maintenance and minor repairs in collaboration with Biomedical Department. Supervises maintenance of anesthesia equipment; service equipment by cleaning sterilizing assembling calibrating testing and troubleshoots malfunctioning equipment. Maintains the requisitions and records of inspections and maintenance including access to all preventative maintenance records.
  • Supervises and ensures the maintenance of pharmacy drugs within expiration dates and properly disposes of used drugs.
  • Supervises the licensed anesthesia provider in clinical settings such as: the operating room (OR)obstetrics suite (OB) interventional and/or diagnostic radiology Post anesthesia care unit (PACU)intensive care unit (ICU) CATH LAB emergency room (ER) endoscopy dental suites and ambulatory surgery suites. Ensures the availability of necessary equipment in each operating room. Supervises the preparation and assembly of transducer lines and equipment necessary for invasive pressure monitoring as necessary or requested.
  • Minimal Qualifications
    Education
    • High School Diploma or GED required and
    • college degree preferred
    Experience
    • 3-4 years Healthcare supervisory experience required
    • One year of relevant professional-level work experience may be substituted for one year of required education.
    Licenses and Certifications
    • CAT - Certified Anesthesia Technician CERT-ANE Certification as an Anesthesia Technician Upon Hire preferred and
    • Anesthesia Machine Certification Upon Hire preferred and
    • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required and
    • Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.
    Knowledge Skills and Abilities
    • Excellent Verbal and written communication skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to follow verbal instructions.
    • Demonstrated ability to negotiate on the departments behalf.
    • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office.

    USD $53,788.00 - USD $95,929.00 /Yr.
