Job description

Summary
This position prepares monitors and equipment, assists the anesthesiologist in patient preparation for cardiac surgical procedures and assures that adequate supplies and drugs are available.
Responsibilities
(20%)* Prepares all specialized lines used in cardiac surgery.
(20%)* Prepares transesophageal echo machine for use by anesthesia staff.
(20%)* Assists in placement of lines and preparation of equipment during all phases of anesthesia, draw blood from arterial lines.
(20%)* Provides assistance in performing physiologic monitoring.
(20%)* Cleans OR anesthesia equipment between cases to include restocking of supplies and equipment.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs point of care laboratory testing.
Assist during intubations.
Maintains immediate availability to assist in routine and emergency procedures. Assists with preparation of equipment for regional blocks in the pre-holding area.
In the performance of the regular job duties, it is appropriate for this job code to have access to the medication room and supply room for the purpose of stocking
Troubleshoots invasive lines and equipment.
Responsible for training other anesthesia techs.
Enters billing data for cases completed.
Ensures anesthesia equipment is properly disinfected and cleaned after use per medical center infection control policy.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS:
Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when setting up, cleaning, maintaining, and handling anesthesia drugs and apparatus is required.

Knowledge of central line and pulmonary artery pressure line set up preferred. Knowledge of performing PA readings preferred.
American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians Certification preferred.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.
Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).
Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
Physical Demand Level: Light. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 11-20 lbs., frequently (34-66% of the workday) 10 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls.
