What you will be doing: 

As a Staff Android Engineer, you'll be joining one of our teams that's rebuilding our mobile banking / wealth application. You will be contributing to the development of world-class digital products and experiences on the Android platform that touch millions of Tangerine customers every day. We're looking to fill our team with influencers, makers, creators, and leaders who are flexible, curious, adventurous, versatile, and responsive; and who are ready to roll up their sleeves in a collaborative and productive environment to get things done. Is this role right for you? - In this role you will:

 

  • Application Development: Design, develop, and maintain robust, efficient, and scalable Android applications using Kotlin and the Android SDK. 
  • Technical Leadership: Serve as a technical expert on Android projects, providing guidance on best practices and emerging trends in Android development. 
  • Code Quality & Reviews: Participate actively in code reviews to ensure quality, performance, and reliability standards are met. 
  • Mentorship: Coach and mentor junior Android developers, fostering an environment of continuous learning and improvement. 
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams (QA, Backend, Product, Design) to deliver end-to-end solutions. 
  • Performance Optimization: Optimize applications for speed, stability, and scalability, proactively identifying bottlenecks and proposing solution

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:

 

  • Experience: 5+ years of professional Android development experience, with a proven record of shipping apps to the Google Play Store. 
  • Technical Expertise: 
  • Strong proficiency in Kotlin (Java experience is a plus). 
  • Deep understanding of Android frameworks and components (Jetpack, Coroutines, LiveData/Flow, etc.). 
  • Experience with RESTful APIs and third-party library integrations. 
  • Strong understanding of Android app design patterns (e.g., MVVM, MVI, MVP). 
  • Familiarity with Google's Material Design Guidelines and best practices for Android UI/UX. 
  • Tooling: Proficiency with Android Studio, Gradle, and version control (Git). 
  • Testing: Experience with testing framework. 
  • Agile Methodologies: Comfortable working in Agile/Scrum environments, including sprint planning, task estimation, and retrospectives. 
  • Soft Skills: 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to lead and collaborate in a fast-paced team setting.
