Job description

At Anchorage Digital, we are building the world's most advanced digital asset platform for institutions to participate in crypto.
Anchorage Digital is a crypto platform that enables institutions to participate in digital assets through custody, staking, trading, governance, settlement, and the industry's leading security infrastructure. Home to Anchorage Digital Bank N.A., the first federally chartered crypto bank in the U.S., Anchorage Digital also serves institutions through Anchorage Digital Singapore, Porto by Anchorage Digital, and other offerings.
The company is funded by leading institutions including Andreessen Horowitz, GIC, Goldman Sachs, KKR, and Visa, with its Series D valuation over $3 billion. Founded in 2017 in San Francisco, California, Anchorage Digital has offices in New York, New York; Porto, Portugal; Singapore; and Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Learn more at anchorage.com, on X @Anchorage, and on LinkedIn.
With the evolving landscape of digital threats and an increasing volume of sophisticated attacks by malicious actors, we have a security policy mandating all new hires complete an in-person onboarding process - no exceptions. Security is our foundation and we prioritize physical identity verification and secure IT setup. While our security and IT logistics require physical presence to protect our infrastructure from sophisticated global threats, this move is equally about our Village culture. We believe that a laptop can be shipped, but our culture cannot.
As an Engineering Manager for our Blockchain Integrations team, you'll lead a high-performing group at the strategic core of Anchorage Digital. This team is responsible for enabling secure, scalable interaction with hundreds of blockchain networks and assets, powering everything from custody and staking to governance and other on-chain functionality. Your mission is to grow and guide this team through deep mentorship, operational excellence, and strong execution.
You'll be responsible for hiring and developing exceptional engineers, partnering with cross-functional leaders, and translating our roadmap into reliable, scalable systems. The team owns both blockchain integrations and secure infrastructure that supports our institutional platform, so the challenges are complex, and the impact is meaningful.
A successful outcome is a team that's energized by its work, equipped to manage ambiguity, and proud of its role in building the most secure platform in digital assets.
We have created the Factors of Growth & Impact to help Villagers better measure impact and articulate coaching, feedback, and the rich and rewarding learning that happens while exploring, developing, and mastering the capabilities and contributions within and outside of the Engineering Manager, Blockchain role:
Technical Skills:
  • Refine engineering roadmap, drive operational excellence, and create technology strategy for your team.
  • Showcase your expertise and judgement in tackling complex and ambiguous challenges, delivering scalable solutions.
  • Focus on and prioritize the health, happiness, personal/professional progression of every member on your team.

Complexity and Impact of Work:
  • You lead a team of Engineers and take responsibility for their quality of execution, timeliness of delivery, impact, and growth.
  • Be a mentor and advisor, providing coaching and feedback which levels up all those on your team.

Organizational Knowledge:
  • Take ownership over the quality of execution, timeliness of delivery, processes, impact and personal and professional growth for a single team.
  • Work closely with Product Managers to define investment in our products, ensuring harmony between our product plans, the bandwidth of the team, the realities of the technical landscape and your plans for the growth and structure of the team.

Communication and Influence
  • Work with other engineering managers, product management, people/recruiting, and the rest of engineering to drive team growth, retention, and hiring moving forward.
  • Have a material influence on not only what Anchorage builds, but who builds it, taking ownership for the growth planning, recruiting and performance management of a team of Engineers.

You may be a fit for this role if:
  • You have demonstrated experience managing, mentoring, and growing a geographically distributed team.
  • You have real world experience building complex distributed systems. We mostly use Go, however languages can be learned. We really care about your engineering and management skills more than any specific language or framework.
  • You enjoy building services from scratch and supporting them over a meaningful period of time.
  • You genuinely care about code quality and test infrastructure.
  • You prioritize end-user experience and business value over "cool tech."
  • You have developed "computer science fundamentals", i.e. concurrency, algorithms, and data structures (Formal CS degree NOT required).
  • You self describe as some combination of the following: creative, humble, ambitious, detail oriented, hard working, trustworthy, eager to learn, methodical, action oriented, and tenacious.

Although not a requirement, bonus points if:
  • You have experience with applied cryptography.
  • In your mind the word "crypto" stands for cryptography, not cryptocurrency.
  • You read blockchain protocol white papers for fun, and stay up to date with the proliferation of cryptoasset innovations.
  • You have a background in the finance industry.
  • You have professional experience with Go/Rust/TypeScript/Solidity.
  • Familiarity with optimistic & zero-knowledge tech.
