What is anatomic pathology?

Anatomic pathology is a medical specialty focused on the study and diagnosis of disease based on the examination of tissues, organs, and bodily fluids. Anatomic pathologists use techniques such as gross examination, microscopy, and molecular analysis to identify abnormalities and guide patient care. This field plays a crucial role in diagnosing cancers, infections, and other conditions, often working closely with other healthcare providers to determine the best treatment options.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in anatomic pathology, and why are they important?

To thrive in Anatomic Pathology, you need a strong background in biology or medical sciences, often supported by a medical degree, pathology residency, and board certification. Familiarity with laboratory information systems, microscopy, and digital pathology tools is essential. These skills and qualifications ensure precise diagnoses, support patient care, and maintain high laboratory standards.
