In Discovery Pharmaceutics and Analytical Sciences, you will impact the lives of patients by working with multidisciplinary research teams to help discover novel, efficacious and safe therapeutics. BMS is looking for a motivated Scientist with a desire to contribute to the fast-paced discovery matrix environment by conducting biophysical characterization and preformulation studies for potential new biologic candidates. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of analytical techniques for large molecules, as well as biophysical properties of new biologic candidates as they relate to compound liability and developability profiles.
The successful candidate will be expected to apply emerging digital and AI-enabled approaches, where scientifically appropriate, to strengthen biologics candidate assessment, improve experimental design, accelerate data interpretation, and enhance decision-making in discovery pharmaceutics and analytical sciences. Job Responsibilities Carry out and interpret biophysical characterization and preformulation studies on potential new biologics candidates, with the purpose to define their developability and liability profiles to support candidate assessment and nomination. Provide experimental, computational, and AI-enabled input to protein discovery scientists during design and screening of new biologics entities, using appropriate predictive models, data mining approaches, and informatics tools to support lead optimization, candidate identification, characterization, and selection.
Strategically design and guide the development of formulations suitable for use in drug discovery pharmacology studies, PK studies and initial exploratory toxicology studies. Work with discovery teams to enable drug discovery through application of innovative drug delivery technologies, devices, and data-driven or AI-enabled approaches, internally and externally, to support more effective delivery of biologics. Contribute to and help shape the strategic direction of Discovery Pharmaceutics & Analytical Sciences, strengthening its role as a problem-solving partner for biologics discovery teams and enabling seamless transfer of candidates to development.
Advance the capabilities of the larger candidate optimization organization by developing scientific expertise that strengthens understanding of how biophysical properties influence overall biopharmaceutical performance of proteins, antibodies, and other large molecule modalities. Job Requirements/Education Ph.D. with 0-2 years of experience or MS with 3+ years of experience in or Bachelors with 5+ years of experience in Pharmaceutics, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering or related disciplines
Knowledge of basic protein chemistry and biopharmaceutical principles as they apply to drug discovery and drug delivery of proteins, antibodies and other large molecule modalities is required. Understanding of biophysical properties and analytical methods used for characterization of proteins and other large molecules and how they relate to the biologics' in vivo delivery and disposition is required. Experience in protein and peptide chromatography, including application of various UPLC/HPLC modes, mass-spectrometry-based protein footprinting techniques, peptide mapping, glycosylation and PTM analysis of proteins.
Strong understanding of preformulation aspects for proteins, antibodies and other large molecules is necessary, along with ability to guide the generation and interpretation of preformulation data as it relates to the overall discovery process. An understanding of drug delivery technologies and devices and their assessment relative to the delivery of biologics is desired. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated effectiveness as a team player on multidisciplinary teams resourced in a flexible, global environment are required. The ability to think innovatively and reduce such thinking to practical implementation to enable the discovery and design of new biologics entities is desired. Demonstrated ability to use digital, computational, and AI-enabled tools for experimental planning, data analysis, visualization, literature and knowledge mining, and scientific communication is highly desirable.
The candidate should demonstrate sound scientific judgment in the use of AI-enabled tools, including awareness of data quality, model limitations, reproducibility, documentation, confidentiality, and appropriate human review of AI-assisted outputs. #LI-Onsite If you come across a role that intrigues you but doesn't perfectly line up with your resume, we encourage you to apply anyway. You could be one step away from work that will transform your life and career.
