Job description

Analytical Laboratory Analyst

Hazen Research, Inc. is an independent industrial research and development (R&D) company specializing in the mining, chemical, energy, and environmental industries worldwide since 1961. Our 18 building, 14 acre campus in Golden,

Colorado, houses multiple laboratory and pilot plant facilities to support our R&D work across multiple disciplines. The facility is operated by a staff of over 100 engineers, chemists, technicians, and support personnel.

Position Description:

We are seeking applicants for analytical laboratory analyst positions. The successful candidate will have the ability to strictly follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) encompassing a variety of procedures, with a commitment to detail and accuracy is a requirement of this position. As analysts work closely with each other, other lab staff, and lab management in a professional work environment, reliability and a well-developed ability to communicate both orally and written, are required.

Typical functions include:

  • Radiation Chemistry
  • Ion Chromatography
  • Fuels Analysis
  • Sample dissolutions using acid and fusion methods.
  • Instrumental analysis on inorganic samples including Flame AA, IC, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, Leco instrumentation, and titration instruments
  • Wet chemical analyses such as leaching, solvent extraction, ion exchange, gravimetric analyses, ISE analysis, and other methods
  • Lab cleanup and organization
  • Instrument maintenance
  • Making/verifying standards and calibrations
  • Performing initial data verification and review
  • Construct bench and pilot scale systems

For consideration of the position, candidates must have a working understanding of fundamental chemistry concepts to safely handle tasks associated with high accuracy chemical analysis. Candidates must be able to follow operating procedures and adhere to good lab practice principles with a commitment to detail and accuracy. Preference will be given to candidates with working experience in inorganic analytical chemistry laboratories. This is a full time position of 40+ hours a week, with the possibility of overtime.

Schedule:

  • Flexible work schedule
  • Usually Monday-Friday 8-hr days
  • Occasional longer hours, nights shifts and weekend work

Qualifications:

  • 2 – 4 year degree in chemistry or in related experience
  • Previous Laboratory and Instrumentation Experience is required
  • Familiar with MS Office (specifically Excel and Word)
  • Wet Chemical analysis experience such as Digestions, Titrations, etc.
