Job description

We are seeking a General Surgeon to help provide comprehensive surgical services to Veterans at the VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, WV. This role includes scheduled surgical care during standard clinic hours and extensive on-call coverage for emergencies, consults, and inpatient needs.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide the full scope of general surgery services consistent with a civilian hospital standard of care
  • Perform elective and emergency surgical procedures
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and manage surgical patients in inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Provide pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care
  • Respond to surgical consults and urgent/emergent cases
  • Collaborate with VA clinical staff and multidisciplinary teams
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with VA requirements
  • Participate in quality assurance and adhere to all VA and Joint Commission standards
  • Provide education and supervision of Health Professions Trainees (HPTs)
  • Support resident and trainee development in accordance with VA and accreditation guidelines
  • May include teaching, mentoring, and clinical oversight

Education & Experience:

  • MD or DO degree from accredited program
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery
  • Completion of accredited General Surgery residency
  • Active, unrestricted U.S. medical license
  • Active BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA)
  • Information pertaining to any malpractice cases (NPDB preferred)
  • DEA registration
  • NPI

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Must be able to multi-task, be detail-oriented, be organized and have excellent verbal and communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work on a team.??
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.?
  • Must be able to successfully complete the AMI Credentialing Process.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications
