About the Opportunity
Job Summary
Affiliated with the John D. O'Bryant African American Institute, one of six centers that comprise Cultural and Spiritual Life (CSL), and reporting to its Director, the Associate Director serves as the Institute's lead educator and program strategist. Working in collaboration with students, university stakeholders, academic partners, alumni, and community organizations, the Associate Director designs, implements, and assesses programs, services, and learning experiences that advance student learning, leadership development, wellbeing, belonging, resource navigation, and success through African American and African diasporic perspectives.
The Associate Director is responsible for developing student learning outcomes, assessing program effectiveness, and using evidence and feedback to strengthen the Institute's educational offerings. Particular emphasis is placed on creating intentional leadership development pathways, measuring student learning, and ensuring that signature programs serve as meaningful entry points for engagement, community connection, and success.
The Associate Director cultivates partnerships with academic departments, university offices, student organizations, alumni, and community organizations to expand opportunities for student learning and engagement. The position serves as a key representative of the Institute in collaborative initiatives that advance student success and belonging across the university.
In addition to leading educational programs and initiatives, the Associate Director supervises professional and student staff, advises student organizations, manages program budgets and operations, and supports implementation of the Institute's strategic priorities. This position requires frequent evenings and weekends in support of student engagement and Institute programming.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a related field with at least 3-5 years of experience working with marginalized populations or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of issues and concerns relevant to communities across the African diaspora and youth or young adults is required.
  • Knowledge of leading evidence-based learning practices, curriculum development, program design and evaluation related to student access, persistence and success, student identity development, and student services is required.
  • Experience building collaborative partnerships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community organizations in support of student learning and success.
  • Experience supervising professional and/or student staff and fostering a culture of accountability, learning, and belonging.
