Engineering Controls Technician - Night Shift

Position Summary

The Engineering Controls Technician is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and improving electrical, automation, robotics, and process control systems within an injection molding manufacturing environment. This role supports production uptime, equipment reliability, process consistency, and continuous improvement initiatives by maintaining molding machines, auxiliary equipment, PLC systems, robotics, and industrial control systems. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on industrial electrical and automation experience, understands injection molding processes, and can work independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Troubleshoot and repair electrical, PLC, HMI, robotics, and control system failures on injection molding equipment.

Support and maintain injection molding machines, robots, conveyors, dryers, chillers, grinders, thermolators, and auxiliary systems.

Read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic, P&ID drawings, and mechanical drawings.

Program, modify, and troubleshoot PLCs and HMIs.

Diagnose machine communication issues involving Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, Profibus, Modbus, and servo systems.

Maintain and troubleshoot VFDs, servo drives, temperature controllers, safety circuits, sensors, and vision systems.

Support robotic systems used in injection molding cells.

Perform preventive and predictive maintenance activities.

Assist process engineers and maintenance teams with machine optimization and cycle time improvements.

Identify root causes of downtime events and implement corrective actions.

Support mold setup and startup activities when needed.

Maintain accurate maintenance records within CMMS systems.

Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, lockout/tagout, and plant safety standards.

Assist with capital projects, equipment installations, and automation upgrades.

Participate in continuous improvement and reliability initiatives.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.

Technical degree or certification in Industrial Automation, Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, Controls Engineering Technology, or related field preferred.

3+ years of industrial controls or automation experience in manufacturing.

Experience working in an injection molding environment preferred.

Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems, PLC troubleshooting, automation systems, robotics, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.

Ability to troubleshoot using multimeters, megohmmeters, oscilloscopes, and industrial diagnostic software.

Familiarity with Allen-Bradley, Yaskawa and Beckhoff PLC platforms.

Understanding of industrial safety systems and machine guarding requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

-Familiarity with Allen-Bradley, Yaskawa and Beckhoff PLC platforms

Experience with Husky, Krauss Maffei and Battenfeld molding equipment.

Robotics experience with Fanuc or similar systems.

Experience with SCADA or plant monitoring systems.

Predictive maintenance experience including thermography and vibration analysis.

NFPA 70E training or industrial electrical certification.
