Job Description

Position Summary

The Director, Warehouse Management is responsible for the overall leadership, performance, and strategic direction of a high-volume, distribution center supporting Advance Auto Parts' store network. This role provides leadership for all warehouse operations, ensuring the safe, efficient, and accurate distribution of automotive parts and accessories while delivering exceptional service levels to stores and customers.

The ideal candidate is a proven operations leader with extensive experience managing distribution environments, leading large teams, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and developing high-performing talent. This position will oversee approximately 20-30 leaders and up to 300 team members while maintaining accountability for operational excellence, inventory accuracy, productivity, quality, safety, and financial performance.

This highly visible leadership role reports directly to the Regional Vice President, Warehouse Operations.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Provide overall leadership and accountability for all distribution center operations, including receiving, put-away, inventory control, order fulfillment, shipping, and transportation coordination.
  • Ensure efficient execution of daily operations while achieving key performance indicators related to safety, quality, service, productivity, and cost.
  • Lead a highly automated distribution environment utilizing advanced warehouse technologies, material handling systems, and automated sortation equipment.
  • Develop and execute operational strategies that support company objectives, network optimization, and business growth.

Team Leadership & Talent Development

  • Build, coach, and develop a high-performing leadership team while fostering a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement.
  • Drive workforce planning, succession planning, talent development, and performance management initiatives.
  • Promote a positive team member experience and cultivate an inclusive, safety-first culture.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and development opportunities.

Customer & Business Partnership

  • Partner closely with Store Operations, District Leaders, Regional Vice Presidents, Transportation, Inventory Management, and Supply Chain teams to ensure service excellence.
  • Maintain strong relationships with store leadership by proactively addressing service opportunities and operational challenges.
  • Support company initiatives focused on improving product availability, delivery performance, and customer satisfaction.

Safety, Compliance & Quality

  • Champion a culture of safety and regulatory compliance, ensuring adherence to all company policies, OSHA regulations, and best practices.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that reduce risk, improve quality, and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Ensure inventory integrity through disciplined execution of cycle counting, auditing, and process control procedures.

Continuous Improvement & Financial Management

  • Utilize Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies to optimize workflow, productivity, and operational costs.
  • Analyze operational performance metrics and implement corrective actions to improve service levels and operational results.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets while maintaining financial discipline and operational efficiency.
  • Lead distribution center start-up, expansion, integration, and process improvement initiatives as needed.

Qualifications

Experience

  • 7+ years of progressive leadership experience in distribution center, warehouse, logistics, or supply chain operations.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of senior-level leadership experience managing large-scale distribution operations.
  • Proven success leading automated distribution facilities with high SKU complexity and high-volume throughput.
  • Demonstrated experience managing teams of 200+ employees through multiple levels of leadership.
  • Experience supporting retail, automotive aftermarket, e-commerce, or multi-channel distribution environments preferred.
  • Prior experience with distribution center start-ups, or network transformations is highly desirable.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Advanced degree and/or professional certifications (APICS/ASCM, CSCP, CLTD, Lean Six Sigma) preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Strong proficiency with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), including RedPrairie/JDA/Blue Yonder or similar platforms.
  • Experience with Warehouse Control Systems (WCS), automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS), conveyor systems, robotics, and automated sortation technologies.
  • Advanced knowledge of inventory control, warehouse optimization, labor planning, and operational analytics.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data-driven performance management tools.

  • Flexibility to support multiple shifts, weekends, holidays, and peak-volume periods as business needs dictate.
